Each year the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland (DARD) offers a limited number of Postgraduate Studentships for a three year period of research normally leading to a PhD qualification at a
University in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland. Funding is provided for full-time students only. Part-time study will not be supported. The DARD Postgraduate Agricultural and Food Studentships competition is aimed at students wishing to undertake Doctoral programmes by research.
Numbers are determined by Departmental priorities and budget availability. Support is available to provide approved fees and maintenance grants to students being trained in methods of research. Proposals must be aligned to our priority research themes. For the 2011 Competition applicants should also demonstrate how their project meets one of our evidence and innovation gaps and priorities. No more than two research studentships will normally be provided in any one project area. PhD Research Studentships may be held in Higher Education Institutes in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.
Awards are not tenable abroad but, exceptionally, consideration may be given to a student spending part of his/her research training or course of study overseas, if the subject is one which can best be studied abroad. Preferably the request for such training should be included in the application for an award. The award is not means tested.
Scholarship Application Deadline: 25 February 2011
