Applications are invited for a fully-funded three-year studentship in the field of science communication, specifically to study the promotion of the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (Cern).
This project will explore and evaluate communication associated with the start-up of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) over a six-year period, including communication produced by media professionals and citizen scientists. It is envisaged that the research undertaken within this studentship will contribute to debates about digital scholarship, public engagement and science communication, making valuable contributions to these related fields in terms of both theory and practice.You should have, or expect to gain, a 2.1 or above in an undergraduate degree or Masters degree in a related subject area (e.g. science communication, media, journalism or communication studies, history, philosophy or sociology of science, or other appropriate discipline).

In the 2008 RAE over 50% of its research was rated as “world leading” or “internationally excellent”.The Open University provides excellent support and offers training in computer, library and presentation skills. Students normally live in, or within commuting distance of Milton Keynes. The studentship may involve opportunities to visit and conduct research at Cern.
