PhD Studentship in Modern Languages at Newcastle University, UK

The School of Modern Languages is offering a full PhD studentship (Graduate Teaching Assistantship) starting in October 2011, to enable a student to carry out doctoral research on a topic in one of the following fields: Chinese and Japanese Studies; French and Francophone Studies; German Studies; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies; Film Studies; Linguistics; Translating and Interpreting Studies. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, the successful candidate will teach up to 6 hours per week and in return will receive: An annual stipend of £ 13,000 A waiver for UK/EU fees throughout the 3-year period. Appropriate training for doctoral research and teaching.The studentship will commence on 01/10/2011 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a period of 3 years. 2011-2012 Paul P. Fidler Research Grant at University of South Carolina,USA: research on issues of college student transitions

The Paul P. Fidler Research Grant is designed to encourage the development and dissemination of knowledge that has the potential to improve the experiences of college students in transition.  The grant is named in memory of Dr. Paul P. Fidler, a faculty member at the University of South Carolina, whose pioneering research on student learning and success had a vital impact on work being done to promote the success of all students in transition.Comprehensive Award Package
The Paul P. Fidler Research Grant award includes a cash stipend, travel to two national conferences, a presentation at a national conference, and priority consideration for publication. Specifically, the grant’s comprehensive award package includes:  Stipend of $5,000, payable either directly to individual researchers or through the researcher(s)’ institution(s). The Center will not pay institutional overhead or indirect costs. Travel to the 18th National Conference on Students in Transition, November 2011, at which the award will be presented. Travel to the 19th National Conference on Students in Transition, November 2012, at which the research findings will be reported. Eligibility: The Paul P. Fidler Research Grant competition is open to faculty, staff, graduate students who plan to conduct research on issues of college student transitions. Cross-institutional research teams are encouraged to apply for the Paul P. Fidler Research Grant. The following individuals are not eligible for the Paul P. Fidler Research Grant and may not be included as part of proposed research teams: National Resource Center staff and fellows; current members of the Center’s National Advisory Board; and students, staff, and faculty of the University of South Carolina system.

Hydro Fellowship Programme 2011, USA: Hydroelectric technology, including efficiency improvements and environmental mitigation.

The Hydro Research Foundation is pleased to solicit applications for the Hydro Research Foundation Fellowship Program.  The Program is funded by a grant from the Department of Energy. These Fellowships are designed to allow outstanding early-career researchers to facilitate research related to hydropower.  Research undertaken by the Foundation and its Fellows seeks to advance knowledge about hydroelectric technology, including efficiency improvements and environmental mitigation.  Through this program the Foundation is promoting educational opportunities and information development related to hydropower.  Innovation, creativity and forward-thinking research are encouraged. The Foundation envisions that the selected researchers will eventually assume leadership roles in the hydroelectric field.  Fellows are selected based on research vision, innovation, academic performance, potential for leadership and overall strength of their research proposal.Hydro Research Foundation Fellows will be awarded two years of support for applied research in the field of hydropower.  Fellowship applicants must have completed a bachelors degree by the date of the Fellowship award and be a full time Masters or Doctoral Student. Each Fellow will be monitored by an academic sponsor who will encourage the continual development of the Fellow. Eligibility: Eligible applicant must have completed at a minimum a bachelor’s degree by the start date of the fellowship.
Applicant must be a full-time student at a U.S. university in a Masters or Doctoral level program to received funding.
The expectation is that the applicant must be a full-time student who will able to complete their Masters degree in two years or their Doctorate Degree preferably in two years, but not more than three years.
