Queen Mary Studentships are open to suitably qualified candidates from the UK, EU and overseas. In the case of overseas applicants, the difference in cost between Home/EU and Overseas fees will be met by the School.The School is committed to appointing only the very best candidates to our PhD program. To apply you should have a good first degree (BA or BSc Honours or equivalent), at first class standard (or upper second class with clear evidence of 1st class work), and/or a Masters qualification (at Merit or above) in Geography or a cognate discipline related to the Studentship. Applicants for Studentship 4 (Emotions and the Home in Modern Britain) must hold a Masters degree in a geographical or historical subject related to the themes of the studentship.

The University of Birmingham Hong Kong Postgraduate Scholarships 2011, UK: Arts, Science and Law

The University of Birmingham is pleased to announce postgraduate Masters degree scholarships for candidates from Hong Kong beginning their studies in September 2011. The application deadline is 30 April 2011. Candidates for the scholarships should normally fulfill the following requirements: a.have resided in Hong Kong for at least 7 years preceding 1 October 2011; b.be holders of a degree (or expect to gain a degree before September 2011) from any institutions of tertiary education in Hong Kong; c.have applied for admission to the University of Birmingham through the University’s normal admissions procedures by 30 April 2011; d.be eligible for admission to their intended course of study at the University of Birmingham (Note: the scholarship award will only be confirmed when the candidate has been offered a place at the University. The offer of a scholarship is not a guarantee of admission to the University); e.be able to provide evidence satisfactory to the University of an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English; f.should not have previously studied in the United Kingdom; and g.should be able to fund the remaining costs of their studies at Birmingham including living costs from other sources.

The DEKALB Ag Youth Scholarship in African/International Students 2011: Agriculture related Subject

Applications are now being accepted for the DEKALB® Ag Youth Scholarship program, which will provide $2,500 awards to 10 students in 2011 in recognition of their commitment to agriculture.

“We are excited to once again sponsor the DEKALB Ag Youth Scholarship for the fifth straight year,” said DEKALB Marketing Manager Jason Hoag. “DEKALB has a strong history of investing in ag youth education by sponsoring a variety of scholarships and awards.”

This particular award is available to both high school and collegiate students who plan to pursue an agriculture-related degree and who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and community involvement. It has already made a difference for dozens of students since 2007.

“The scholarship has helped me get the best education I can,” said 2010 DEKALB Ag Youth Scholarship winner Chelsea Ahlquist, 18, of Onaga, Kan., who is working toward an agronomy degree at Kansas State University.  “I’m really excited for the opportunity at Kansas State to pursue a career in crop development.”

Ohio FFA District 1 President Mike Hannewald of Waterville, 19, was another 2010 recipient. ”I felt very honored to have received the scholarship and it has helped me focus on my education and preparing for a future career in agriculture,” said Hannewald, who is attending Ohio State University, majoring in crop science.  “I really appreciate the support of DEKALB and Monsanto.”

Applications are available online at and must be submitted by February 15, 2011. FFA membership is not required to be eligible for the scholarship program.
