TWAS-COMSTECH Joint Research Grants: Earth Sciences, Engineering

The programme aims at encouraging the pursuit of scientific excellence in OIC countries by identifying and supporting the best young scientists in these countries; reinforcing and promoting scientific research and strengthening the endogenous capacity in science and technology; and counteracting the brain drain and reducing the exodus of scientific talent from the OIC countries.

* COMSTECH-TWAS Joint Research Grants are awarded to high-level and promising research projects carried out by young individual scientists in OIC countries.
* A Research Grant amounts to a maximum of US$15,000.
* A grant is normally provided for a period of 18 months and is renewable once.
* A grant may be used to purchase scientific equipment, consumables and specialized literature (textbooks and proceedings only). The grant does not cover salaries of researchers and/or students, field expenses, travel expenses and/or participation in international conferences.

Subject Areas

The programme provides support for research projects in the following fields of science and technology: earth sciences, engineering sciences, information technology and computer sciences, materials science including nanotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences and renewable energy.

Eligibility of Applicants

* Individual applicants must be nationals of OIC Member States, with a PhD and some research experience, but at the beginning of their careers. They should hold positions at universities or research institutions in one of the OIC countries. As a general rule, the grants are awarded to competent scientists under the age of 40 years.
* Scientists who submit a satisfactory final report on a previous grant may apply for a renewal.

Business Achievement Award 2011: Business

This award recognizes members who excel in the study of business.
First place winner will receive $2,000 (USD), second place winner will receive $1,500 (USD) and third place winner will receive $1,000 (USD).
Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in classes in a degree-granting program may apply.

Master Mundus German and French Philosophy in the European Context

The Master Mundus Program “German and French Philosophy in the European Context” (EuroPhilosophie) offers to the best students from around the world a specialized advanced course of study for two years in the fields of German and French philosophy and their interaction within the European cultural context.
Each year the Master EuroPhilosophie selects:

– Approximately ten students ?who are not European Union citizens and who have not spent more than 12 months in the EU are offered an annual scholarship of 20, 800 euro (Erasmus Mundus A) to study at three universities in the EuroPhilosophie Consortium. (Registration fees for students receiving a scholarship amounts to 2400 euro per semester).

– Approximately 8 citizens of EU or non-citizens of the European Union who have spent more than 12 months in European Union are offered an annual scholarship of 9000 euro (Erasmus Mundus B) to study at three universities in the EuroPhilosophie Consortium. (Registration fees for students receiving a scholarship amounts to 750 euro per semester).

The program also admits non-European and European students without awarding a scholarship from the Erasmus Mundus European Commission. The cost of participation for non-European students is the same as those from group A, and European students is the same as those from group B.
