Fellowship Description: The Department of Economics, in partnership with Nuffield College, offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowship openings for candidates who have recently completed a doctoral degree. Fellows enjoy the freedom and facilities to develop their research portfolios, so strengthening their positions in the future academic job market. Many previous fellows have moved on to permanent faculty positions at Oxford or elsewhere. Oxford provides a vibrant environment for postdoctoral researchers: over twenty researchers hold postdoctoral positions within the department.

Fellowships are tenable for a fixed-term of three years; shorter appointments are considered only in exceptional circumstances. Fellows gain teaching experience via a light teaching load which will not exceed 30 hours annually. Consideration will be given to any field of specialization. Up to four posts are available.

2010 NNPC/ESSO National Postgraduate Scholarship Awards

In continuation of its efforts to provide opportunities for developing careers in the petroleum industry, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) awards scholarships to qualified Nigerian graduates who wish to pursue post-graduate studies in Nigerian Universities.

Applications in the underlisted disciplines will be considered:

  • Geosciences
  • Engineering (Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Electronics, Marine, Mechanical, Petroleum and Sub-Sea)

Essential Requirements:

  1. Must be a graduate of a Nigerian University.
  2. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second class upper division in any of the Engineering or Geosciences disciplines.
  3. Must have provisional admission into an accredited Nigerian University for postgraduate study (M.Sc or M.Eng) in the 2010/2011 academic session.

The NNPC/ESSO scholarship award applies to tuition, books, accommodation and up-keep expenses for the duration of the selected course of study.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to come with the original and a photocopy of the following documents for screening prior to taking the qualifying test:

  • Valid Identification Card
  • Bachelor’s Degree Certificate
  • Admission letter for postgraduate study
  • WAEC results
  • University transcripts

Names of short-listed candidates for the qualifying test will be published on the scholarship website and in National Dailies. These candidates will also be contacted with details of the qualifying test via SMS text and email.

Employees of ExxonMobil subsidiary companies in Nigeria and their dependents are not eligible for this scholarship.

Fellowship Description: The Huntington is an independent research center with holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, and the history of science and medicine. The Library collections range chronologically from the eleventh century to the present and include a half-million rare books, nearly six million manuscripts, 800,000 photographs, and a large ephemera collection, supported by a half-million reference works. The Burndy Library consists of some 67,000 rare books and reference volumes in the history of science and technology, as well as an important collection of scientific instruments. Within the general fields listed above there are many areas of special strength, including: Middle Ages, Renaissance, 19th- and 20th-century literature, British drama, Colonial America, American Civil War, Western America, and California. The Art Collections contain notable British and American paintings, fine prints, photographs, and an art reference library. In the library of the Botanical Gardens is a broad collection of reference works in botany, horticulture, and gardening.

The Huntington will award to scholars over one hundred fellowships for the academic year 2011-2012. These fellowships derive from a variety of funding sources and have different terms. Recipients of all fellowships are expected to be in continuous residence at the Huntington and to participate in and make a contribution to its intellectual life.
