Scholarship for Several Countries students

Scholarship for Several Countries students

Study Subject: Macroeconomic and Financial Management

Employer: International Monetary Fund

Level: Graduate Students

Scholarship Description: The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) was first introduced in 1993. It is funded by the Government of Japan, administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and conducted at various graduate schools in Japan. Its objective is to contribute to institutional capacity building in economic policymaking to promote the sustainable growth of emerging and developing economies in Asia and the Pacific. By training future macroeconomic managers in these countries, the JISPA aims to enable them to better formulate sound economic and financial stability policies needed for sustainable growth and development.

The JISPA targets highly motivated government officials who may serve as future macroeconomic policy makers with the capacity and vision to contribute effectively to the economic development of their countries. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of the candidate’s academic record and work background, mathematical and statistics skills, English language proficiency, and potential for contributing to the macroeconomic and financial management and economic development of their country. The assessment also includes qualities such as the candidate’s commitment to public service, willingness to learn, and openness to new ideas.

Currently, the JISPA is open to qualified candidates from the following countries:
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao P.D.R., Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pacific Island Countries, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam

Scholarship Application Deadline: 10 December 2010

PhD Scholarship

Students who are applying for this scholarship must have Knowledge and experience in the fields of optical measurement techniques would be advantageous

Study Subject: Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Applied Physics

Employer: Delft University of Technology, Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering

Level: PhD

Scholarship Description: CO2 capture and storage (CCS) is one of the leading options for the short-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, the CO2 capture step accounts for 75% of the cost of the CCS chain and leads to a significant increase in energy usage. Therefore, more efficient CO2 capture technologies are required. Absorption is the most mature technology for CO2 capture today; however, this process is not yet fully understood. It is a major challenge to separate the effects of mass transfer from chemical reaction kinetics. Therefore, in this project, a Raman-spectrocopy-based set-up will be developed to investigate the equilibrium condition as well as the transient CO2 absorption process. The PhD project will focus on the development of the measurement set-up and measuring cells, as well as the experimental investigation of the absorption process. By incorporating the measurement results, thermodynamics and chemistry, further information about the diffusion process as well as the reaction kinetics should be gained. A significant part of the project is being carried out at the Chair for Technical Thermodynamics (LTT) of Prof. André Bardow (RWTH Aachen University).

Requirements

Applicants should have an MSc in the area of mechanical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, or applied physics. Knowledge and experience in the fields of optical measurement techniques would be advantageous. Fluency in English is an additional requirement.

Scholarships aims at developing new instruments for the quantification of the severity of Crohn’s disease

Scholarships aims at developing new instruments for the quantification of the severity of Crohn’s disease

Study Subject: Science

Employer: Delft University of Technology

Level: PhD

Scholarship Description: We are looking for a PhD student to develop automatic image processing techniques to measure descriptive features of Crohn’s disease activity in both MR and microscopy (histopathology) images. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) constitute one of the largest healthcare problems in the western world, affecting over 1 million European citizens alone, 700,000 of whom suffer from Crohn’s disease. Grading of Crohn’s disease severity is important to determine treatment strategy and to quantify the response to treatment. Colonoscopy is considered the reference standard for diagnosis of all IBDs. However, the procedure is invasive and is considered very burdensome by most patients.

The PhD project is part of the VIGOR++ project, which aims at developing new instruments for the quantification of the severity of Crohn’s disease. These tools can support early diagnosis, improved therapy planning and a better quality of life for patients. VIGOR++ is funded by the European Union and involves leading European groups in abdominal radiology, medical image analysis, modelling, scientific visualisation, gastroenterology and commercial diffusion. The PhD student will collaborate closely with other PhD students involved in the VIGOR++ project.

Requirements

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic candidate with an MSc degree in (applied) physics or a related subject. He/she must have an excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and a top 20% ranking during his/her BSc and MSc. Experience in image processing is helpful. Good programming skills in MATLAB and C are a necessity.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 31-12-2010
