Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists, UK

This fellowship, which is funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), provides support for two years training in medical statistics. For the first year (beginning October 2010) the successful applicant will study for the MSc degree in Medical Statistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (LSHTM). This will be followed by a one-year professional attachment at one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. During the professional attachment, training Fellows will develop their statistical and research skills by working on studies with guidance from TEG staff. This support is intended to foster excellence in the field of medical statistics and epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa. The fellowship will provide costs for fees, stipend (£12,500) and return air travel.
Eligibility: (i) be resident in and a national of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
(ii) be in possession of an excellent first degree with a background in mathematics, statistics or a related subject
(iii) have at least 1 year of work experience in medical statistics or epidemiology

Four Postgraduate Positions in Political Science, Sweden

The doctoral candidate programme amounts to 240 credits (which is equivalent to four years of study full time). It formally ends with the doctoral candidate publicly defending his/her printed doctoral thesis.

The holder of a postgraduate position has as his/her primary obligation to successfully fulfil his/her third cycle education ending with a PhD degree. Regulations concerning appointment as a full time postgraduate student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, 1-7 §§. The holder of a postgraduate position is expected to participate actively in the research and teaching environment of the Department. He/she will normally have to perform departmental duties, above all teaching, amounting to about 20 per cent of full time.

International Fellowships for Master in Public Management, LKY School of Public Policy, Singapore

The Scholarships/Fellowships below are offered on a competitive basis to recognise outstanding MPM candidates who have clearly demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and are committed to public service. A Scholarship/Fellowship fully finances the candidate’s education in the Master in Public Management programme.

Due to the prestige of the Scholarship/Fellowship, not all awards will be made unless there are candidates of sufficient merit. In addition to meeting the stringent criteria for entry into the MPM programme, all Fellows/Scholars should also demonstrate exceptional academic ability and professional distinction.

Fellows/Scholars may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship or award without the prior approval of the School.

There is no bond or obligation for the Fellow/Scholar to be employed by NUS or in Singapore

The candidate should meet most of the following criteria:
* Be in an organisational position at least comparable to a Director of Division and up to a Deputy Secretary level in the Singapore Civil Service
* Have demonstrated clear leadership potential within a country civil service or political leadership, or in comparable positions in non-profit organisations or in the private sector
* Likely to be between 35 to 45 years old
* Have a minimum of eight years working experience preferably in the area of policy making and public management
* Possess at least a good tertiary education up to Bachelor level
* Preferably have some background in Mathematics and Economics
* Have a good command of the English Language (minimum TOEFL score of 580 or IELTS band of 6.5)
* Show a genuine interest in governance, and be able or likely to fill a future position in government
* Be of good personal character
