Research Position in the Department of Transplantation Immunology and Mucosal Biology, King’s College, UK

A position is available for a Research Associate within the Institute of Liver Studies (ILS), King’s College London School of Medicine at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill Campus. ILS is the largest liver transplantation centre in UK. This post is supported by NHS Blood and Transplant. The post holder should have a PhD or MDres (or equivalent) and is expected to perform a research project aiming at to identifying molecules within the innate immune system responsible for liver graft rejection induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury. Applicants should have previous experience of molecular biology and cellular immunology. Experience of working with human tissue and lymphocytes would be advantageous. Applicants should have proven record of research experience, ie 1st name in the authorship of publication(s) related to their previous research projects. The successful candidate is expected to be well organised at work and highly self-motivated. Skills in the following areas are essential: Quantitative RT-PCR, siRNA, immunohistochemistry, FACs (BD FACs Canto II) and tissue culture. Experience in raising research funds is desirable. The candidate is also expected to work closely with Clinical Fellows, to supervise junior researchers and to participate in other on-going research projects conducted by the PIs. The successful candidate should be prepared to work in the evening and at weekends to process liver tissue and blood samples collected during liver transplantation which occurs frequently outside normal working hours.

2 PhD/Postdoctoral Positions at University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Nano-structured junctions with molecules bound between electrodes present interesting systems for molecular electronic and thermoelectric devices. These projects will investigate inelastic electron transport and heat transport in conducting junctions with a particular focus on strategies for controlling these processes chemically.

PhD employment will be for a period of 3 years, postdoc. employment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension.
The Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). Domus B Graduate Scholarships, UK

Merton College is offering two Domus B Graduate Scholarships in 2011. The scholarships are intended to assist Home and EU students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford.

The scholarships provide College and University fees and a maintenance grant of £12,300. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships will be tenable for three years in the case of direct entry doctoral programmes and four in cases where a preparatory master’s course is required before the doctorate. Scholars are guaranteed College single accommodation (if required) for the first year, after which they can enter the graduate room ballot. Scholars must meet the costs of this accommodation themselves.
