New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships 2011, New Zealand

Funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand, the New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS), are a significant educational opportunity.
The scholarships provide financial support for international students undertaking doctoral degrees by research in New Zealand universities.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship students must:
•Be international students
•Please note that citizens of Fiji may not apply for the NZIDRS until further notice.
•Hold an ‘A’ average or equivalent in their studies to date
•Meet the requirements for direct entry into a research based doctoral degree programme at a New Zealand university. (Please note, this will include proof of English Language proficiency.)
•Provide: An Educational Credential Evaluation (ECE) Certificate. See ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ for further information including contact details for ECE and exceptions.
•Provide evidence that they have been in contact with the relevant department of their chosen institution and discussed their proposed research, research interests and the availability of appropriate supervision.
•Hold one of the following English language test scores, achieved no longer than two (2) years prior to the time of application:
•An IELTS Academic Test with an overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6; or
•A TOEFL test score of at least 575, including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English; or
•A score of 233 in the Computer based TOEFL, including an Essay Writing score of 4.5; or
•An overall score of 100 in the Internet based TOEFL; or
•Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) – Grade B;
•Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) – Grade C.

Selection Process
A selection committee of senior academics, appointed by Education New Zealand, will consider applications. Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
•The applicant has a record of sustained academic excellence, particularly in the chosen field of study, as supported by academic transcripts and letters of reference.
•The applicant has a well-defined research programme or research interests, and wishes to study at a New Zealand university with the expertise and resources to support that research.
•The applicant meets all eligibility requirements with appropriate supporting documentation.
•All prospective candidates must have received final confirmed grades for their qualifying degree in order for their application to be considered.
•Prospective candidates who have already commenced their Doctorate in New Zealand, must be within the first 6 months of PhD enrolment as at the application close date.
•Prospective candidates who have completed more than 6 months of PhD enrolment at the application close date will not be considered.
•Incomplete applications and electronically submitted applications will not be considered under any circumstances. This is non-negotiable.

International PhD Studies in Fundamental Problems of Quantum Gravity and Quantum Field Theory, Poland

This is to announce the second recruitment within the International PhD Projects Programme (MPD) at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw. MPD is open internationally to all candidates satisfying conditions specified below. It is offering four years PhD program within quantum field theory for 5 students. .

Application Requirements

The candidates wishing to apply should select a research project and a supervisor from the list and obligatory provide the following documents:

1. Request for admission from Internet Candidate Registration System at the University of Warsaw. The registration will be opened in September 2011. 4. Opinion from the place of employment (in case of candidates who graduated in the past and started professional work).

6. Candidates must be graduate of the post-graduate (2.-degree) studies in domains: physics, technical physics, mathematics. Copy of their graduation diploma must be submitted. His/her M.Sc. diploma must be with the grade: very good (or equivalent) and must be presented together with a detailed list of all courses taken and assessed (with grades obtained for each course) during the study period (the so-called diploma supplement in case of Polish students).
7. Letter-of-intent, i.e. a short (not more than two pages A4) description of his/her qualifications for particular research project the candidate would like to carry within MPD. He/she should point out how the former education (courses completed, skills acquired) make him/her most eligible for the given project. Letter-of-intent should be prepared in English.
8. Two evaluations of his/her diploma thesis, prepared by:
* the thesis tutor (it should include an estimate of candidate scientific activity performed so far)
* thesis referee
9. An address data (name, position, affiliation, office address, e-mail, telephone numbers) of at least one referee who might be contacted by the Admission Committee and asked to provide the recommendation letter for the applicant.
10. A certificate proving fluency in English as a working language.

Additional documents

1. Applicants whose scientific results have been already published should prepare a list his/her publications. In case of several-author articles, the candidate should try to evaluate approximately and state his/her contribution to the paper.
2. Applicants who during the study period completed extra courses that may have connection with the target-project should present the adequate certificates and brief characterization of the courses.
3.

Applicants who successfully passed an entry examination to a PhD program (physics, mathematics and related domains) during last two years and completed no more than one year of the studies may also apply to the MPD program. For these candidates the requirements 1, 2, 3 and 4 do not apply. The candidates should present a reference letter of their tutors within the framework of the actual PhD program containing a detailed evaluation of candidate’s abilities together with the approval of the present tutor of candidate’s application to the MPD.

Recruitment procedure

The recruitment procedure consists of two stages: the first based on documents provided by a candidate, and the second based on an interview. Only candidates who pass the first stage will be invited for the interview. Documents submitted by the applicants will be considered by the Admission Committee composed of 4 to 6 persons, including the would-be-tutors in the MPD project, co-chaired by the persons in charge of the PhD Programme at the Faculty Physics of the University of Warsaw and invited experts. A person representing the Foundation for Polish Science will be invited to the Committee. Only candidates with the highest admission scores will be invited for the interview. In special cases candidates can be interviewed on-line or by the telephone. The Admissions Committee will decide on the form of the interview for each candidate. A supervisor selected by a candidate can participate in the interview but the final judgment is made solely by the Admission Committee.

You will find on this site a list of international courses and training programmes for which there is a possibility of scholarship and the modalities of introduction of an application file as well as the rules of selection. These rules define the conformity of the files and therefore are very important.

Eligibility:
1. Only applicants originating in developing countries, qualify for selection. To be eligible, candidates must reside and work in their country at the time of the introduction of the file.

2. Only the nationals of the following countries are authorized to postulate with our Scholarships :

3. At the beginning of the programme, candidates must be less than 40 years old for courses, and less than 45 years old for training programmes.

4. Candidates must be holders of a degree that is comparable to a Belgian University graduate degree (“licence”). However, for certain programmes different rules of admissibility may be defined, and these are specified hereafter, where appropriate.

5. Candidates must show professional experience of at least two years upon termination of their studies. Where candidates are holders of a postgraduate degree delivered by an university of an industrial country, they must show professional experience of at least three years upon termination of their studies.

6. Candidates must have a good knowledge of written and spoken French; for programmes organised in another language, good knowledge, in writing and speaking, of this language, is required. Moreover, the candidate will be asked to commit himself to study French in order to be able to participate in daily life in Belgium.

7. Candidates are not allowed to apply for more than one programme.
