Australian Solar Institute

ASI Research Scholarships and Fellowships are available to support high calibre candidates whose research will lead to the advancement of innovation in Australian solar research, development and industry.  The Scholarships are offered for PhDs and Fellowships are offered for Post Doctoral.

Applications are now open for ASI Research Scholarships and Fellowships for full time study / research commencing in 2011.  The closing date for applications is 5pm August 5th 2010.  Applications will be assessed on merit by the ASI Research Advisory Committee.

1.  Applying for an ASI Research Scholarship or Fellowship

Applicants for PhDs are required to complete the ASI Scholarship (PhD) Application Form which is provided at the end of these Guidelines.

Post Doctoral Fellowship applicants are required to complete the ASI Post Doctoral Research Fellowship Application Form, which is also provided at the end of these Guidelines.

Applicants must arrange for three referee reports to be submitted under a separate cover using ‘Confidential Report on ASI Scholarship / Fellowship Candidate Form’ which can be downloaded from the ASI website.

When completed, applications must be submitted to ASI in the following acceptable formats:

i) A signed electronic copy of the application in PDF format by email to address below by 5pm (AEST) 5 August 2010:

ii) One (1) identical hard copy of the application to follow by mail to address below.

All applications to asi are evaluated according to the application format. They will not be evaluated unless all questions are answered and the information requested is supplied to a sufficiently high standard.

Center for Biological Sequence

Job Description: A PhD position is available for immediate start at Center for Biological Sequence Analysis, Department of Systems Biology in collaboration with the Sino-Danish Breast Cancer research group.

The Center for Biological Sequence Analysis conducts basic research in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology and employs a staff of +100 with a highly multi-disciplinary profile (molecular biologists, biochemists, medical doctors, physicists, computer scientists, and technical staff). The center represents one of the largest bioinformatics and systems biology groups in academia in Europe.

The successful candidate will be based at the Technical University of Denmark and will collaborate closely with Danish breast cancer clinical groups. The project will be interdisciplinary involving data integration from sequencing, microarrays, SNPs, literature mining, protein-protein interactions and text mining on clinical patient records.

Qualifications
Candidates applying for a PhD scholarship should have a master’s degree in bioinformatics, biology, biochemistry, engineering, computer science, or a similar degree.

The applicant should have a good biological background and computing skills with unix command line, perl/python and R are preferred. Prior experience with oncology or drug disposition is highly desirable. The applicant must be a good communicator and fluent in written as well as spoken English.

Job Description: Edinburgh Law School will offer two scholarship opportunities to support students taking the PhD degree on a full-time basis and commencing their studies in September 2010.

* One award to cover tuition fees at the Home/EU level as well as a maintenance stipend of £8,000 per annum.
