2011 Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program

Scholarships are for student and research exchanges at the graduate level.The Government of Canada offers scholarships to Canadian publicly funded universities or colleges as part of the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program (CCSP) and Government of Canada Awards (GCA). Publicly funded Canadian institutions must submit applications on behalf of candidate. CBIE does not accept applications submitted directly by candidate or partner institutions (foreign institutions).

Canadian faculty members who are submitting applications should notify the international relations department of their respective institutions. By doing so, this will assist with central coordination by the institution in the event that multiple applications need to be prioritized.Open to all disciplines including interdisciplinary programs. Projects with a scientific research component will be prioritized.

The mission of the World Bank Group is to reduce poverty and improve living standards through sustainable development and investment in people. The World Bank Institute (WBI) is at the forefront of the Bank’s efforts to promote learning and deliver to the stakeholders, the best thinking and experience emerging from around the world on issues crucial to reform and socio-economic development.

Through its management of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) and the Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSM Fellowships), WBI supplements its training programs by providing opportunities for graduate study to promising professionals from developing member countries.

The objective of the Scholarship and Fellowship Programs is to help create an international community of highly-trained professionals working in the field of economic and social development. The community will actively participate in the capacity building efforts in the developing countries.

Respective candidates are encouraged to carefully go through both the JJ/WBGSP and RSM Fellowships and review the eligibility criteria. For the JJ/WBGSP Regular Program and RSM Fellowships candidates apply directly to the Secretariat at the World Bank Headquarters. For both the Partnership Programs the respective host universities should be contacted.

SCIBE PhD Position at Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Norway: Scarcity and Creativity in the Built Environment

The Oslo School of Architecture and Design calls for applications to the open, full-time position as PhD research fellow for a three year period (1 August 2011 to 30 July 2014). The research fellow will be part of a large research project called Scarcity and Creativity in the Built Environment (SCIBE) funded by the European Union, HERA Program.The PhD position is based either at the Institute of Architecture or at the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape and requires full time residence throughout the three year period, including participation in the research education programme.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a field of relevance to the SCIBE project. Preference will be given to applicants that:

Have undertaken research in a field relevant to the SCIBE project
Have experience of field-work and/or archival work.
Have published work.
Are fluent in Norwegian and English.
