2011 ALA General Scholarship Program in Library and Information Studies, USA

ALA has general scholarships that are open to all applicants who have applied for admission to a formal program of library and information studies leading to a master’s degree.  ALA also has scholarships people from underrepresented groups, for library support staff, and scholarships for speciality or practice area. All ALA Scholarships can be applied for through the ALA Scholarship Program. ALA General Scholarships include: Marshall Cavendish  – this general scholarship of $3,000 was established from donations from the Marshall Cavendish Corporation, Tarrytown, NY, publishers of illustrated reference books for libraries. David H. Clift – this general scholarship of $3,000 was named for a former director of the American Library Association. Christopher Hoy/ERT – this general scholarships of $5,000 was named for a long time ALA staff member who was Director of ALA Conference Services for over 20 years.  This scholarship was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory. Applicants for ALA General Scholarships must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident; must attend an ALA accredited master’s program; must not have completed more than 12 semester hours towards MLS/MLIS/MIS prior to June 1 of the year awarded; and must submit a complete application.

PhD Positions in Pedagogical Aspects on Mobile and Contextual Language Learning at VTT, Finland

VTT is launching second international graduate school in 2011 to attract new, PhD students. We are looking for 15 new PhD students (incl. one Post Doc Researcher) that are expected to contribute to development of our prominent technological competences. Success in this position requires a background in one or several of the following fields:

Call for Proposals-Bilateral Research Cooperation with Vietnam (NAFOSTED) 2011, Netherlands

The FWO is very keen to promote international collaborations as a driving force for excellence. As part of the funding for bilateral research collaborations, the FWO concludes a bilateral agreement with a number of countries for the funding of joint research projects. These projects go one step further than the traditional exchange projects, because personnel can also be financed. One of the five countries selected is Vietnam. An agreement has been signed with the research fund NAFOSTED (National Foundation for Science and Technology) for the funding of new research projects.

Researchers can submit an application for a joint research project with a duration of 2 years. On Flemish side, the indicative budget per project and per year is about 70.000 EURO, which corresponds to the average size of a normal FWO research project. There is a total amount of 300.000 EURO available per year – the number of fundable projects is therefore about 4. NAFOSTED (Vietnam) has 350.000 EURO a year at its disposal for this collaboration, and aims at projects with an average size of 75.000 EURO.The exact dates for each call are decided on in consultation with the foreign partner and may vary. The forms are available online and should be sent by e-mail before the proposed deadline. An application must be submitted simultaneously to NAFOSTED in order to be admissible.
