PhD Studentship in Sustainable Tourism Development in Emerging Economies, UK

The full-time studentship, which includes an element for teaching will be for 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress. Starting bursary will be £20,000 pa plus student fees. For emerging economies, sustainable tourism development presents opportunities for poverty alleviation, economic growth, the maintenance of distinctive cultures and the protection of natural habitats.  However, the success of destinations is dependent on understanding and utlising models of best practice in areas such as policy formation, governance and product development.  This PhD research should focus on the creation of operating environments conducive to sustainable tourism development.  Accepting the significance of contextual influences, the research could relate to strategies appropriate to particular local, regional or national destinations.  Whilst this is not an exhaustive list, possible themes for research proposals include, Effective policy formation and implementation, Social entrepreneurship, Community engagement, Cultural authenticity, Destination management Whilst the University is keen to support research that is applied to geographical areas in which it is undertaking development work, such as Transylvania in Romania, it equally welcomes proposals from applicants who wish to apply their knowledge to any other geographical locations.  Applicants should have a good Honours degree and in addition a good Master’s degree at merit level and above that includes a thesis component.

JRF, SRF and RA Positions at Translational Health Science And Technology Institute, India

Translational Health Science And Technology Institute (THSTI) is an autonomous Institute of the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. THSTI has been developed as a part of the interdisciplinary Health biotech Science cluster to be located at Faridabad which is a part of the National Capital Region. The Institute is being mentored by globally recognized National Institute of Immunology (NII) and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology (HMHST). THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research and develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into tangible products to improve human health. The other members of the cluster include The Regional Centre of Biotechnology (RCB) under the aegis of UNESCO and the NII with which the THSTI will have a seamless collaboration to achieve the interdisciplinary expertise. The cluster will have access to the state of the art experimental animal facility and the platform technology center for the sophisticated instrumentation. The permanent laboratories of the centre will come up in Faridabad within 3 years. The interim laboratories of the centre are functioning from Gurgaon in the South of Delhi area with adequate housing, transportation and schooling facilities. Campus housing may be available when the centre moves to Faridabad.Vaccine and Infectious Disease Research Center (VIDRC) has been set up as a mission center of the THSTI to study infectious disease and pathogens with the aim to generate translational knowledge for developing prophylactic and therapeutic measures against diseases prevalent in India.
Eligibility: RA : Doctorate (PhD/MD) or an equivalent degree or 3 years of research experience after MVSc / MPharm.
SRF: Post Graduate Degree in Life Sciences with 2 years research experience or MBBS.
JRF: Post Graduate Degree in Life Sciences.

Research Fellow in Machine Learning and Computational Neurolinguistics, Australia

The Centre for Language Technology (CLT) invites applications for a Research Fellow position in Machine Learning and Computational Neurolinguistics. The appointee will work on projects funded by Macquarie University and/or the Australian Research Council. She/he will use statistical models and machine learning techniques to construct computational models of incremental human sentence processing (including incremental syntactic parsing), and use these to predict neural activity (measured using MEG and other imaging technologies) in human language processing.
Duties include carrying out research and data analysis, developing and extending mathematical models of language comprehension, model design and implementation, interacting and collaborating with our growing research team of computational linguists, machine-learning specialists and neuroscientists at Macquarie University.
Essential Criteria for appointment at Level A/B: PhD (or submitted PhD thesis) in computational linguistics or machine learning or equivalent experience; publications in the computational linguistics and/or machine learning; ability to develop and implement probabilistic models; a pragmatic attitude to system development; software engineering skills; excellent communication skills; ability to work as a member of a team.
