The standardized structure of the doctoral programs at each of the centers of the GESS makes it possible for students and faculty to compare, interact, and collaborate across the three centers. Furthermore, it accounts for the fact that often top research in one field is inspired by developments in neighboring ones. The figure below provides an overview of the time-structure of the research training at the graduate school.
