Greenet International Research Positions: Cooperative communications, cognitive networks and network coding

Greenet is an Initial Training Network (ITN) Marie Curie project that is focused on the analysis, design, and optimization of energy efficient wireless communication systems and networks.

It will create a fully-integrated and multi-disciplinary network of 17 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) working in 10 first-class institutions distributed in 7 European countries. The consortium is formed by 3 Universities, 3 Research Centers and 4 Private Companies. This Network will offer to a group of newly recruited ESRs a cross-sectorial environment to shape their long-term research view and get fundamental methodological tools on various research fields (such as, cooperative communications, cognitive networks and network coding).

The positions offered within the project are the following:

Universities:

– 3 positions in the Technical University of Catalonia-UPC-BarcelonaTECH, Spain.
– 2 positions in the University of Edinburg, UK.
– 2 positions in the University of Trento, Italy.

Research Centers:
– 1 position in the Telecommunications Technical Centre of Catalonia
(CTTC), Spain.
– 2 positions in the Institute of Telecommunications, Portugal.
– 2 positions in the NCSR Demokritos, Greece.

Industrial partners:
– 2 positions in WEST Aquila, Italy
– 1 position in Acticom, Germany
– 1 position in EADS, France
– 1 positions in Innoroute, Germany

Eligibility
* The recruited researchers should be, at the time of selection, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers (measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate).
* ESR should not already have a PhD and they should have the qualifications to embark on a PhD program.
* At the time of selection by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

AH Research Fellowships, UK: Infectious diseases of farm animals

The Institute for Animal Health is a world-leading centre for research into infectious diseases of farm animals. As part of its long term strategy, we wish to attract and encourage the best scientists to join the Institute to help take forward this important and exciting area of science. In order to help achieve this aim, the Institute has introduced its own Fellowships Scheme to enable outstanding early-stage scientists to develop their own research programme, within the remit of the Institute. The Institute is calling for applications from high-calibre, ambitious, scientists who are able to demonstrate the potential for becoming an established Group Leader. Applicants must be postdoctoral scientists with no less than two years and typically no more than eight years active1 postdoctoral research experience at the time of application.
Progression from a position as a post-doc on an externally-funded (or even core-funded) project to that of an independent Group Leader requires an individual to demonstrate their potential to work independently as a research scientist involving the ability to conceive, plan and deliver a research programme. However, post-docs funded through grants are unable to apply independently for research grants until they hold a tenured position; and they can’t have a tenured position until they can demonstrate the ability to win grants!

Scholarship Application Deadline: 10 March  2011
