Leslie Wilson Research Scholarships 2011 for PhD Studies, UK

The College invites applications for a Leslie Wilson Research Scholarship from well-qualified candidates
who will be studying at the University of Cambridge for a PhD Degree. The Scholarship is tenable for up to three years from 1 October 2011 and there is no restriction of the field of study. Candidates must have graduated at a University before 1 October 2011. While consideration will normally be restricted to those who have obtained, or who have a strong prospect of obtaining, a first-class Honours degree (or its equivalent), evidence of subsequent intellectual development will be taken into account.
In determining the value of the Scholarships in individual cases, the College will take into account candidates’ income from all sources. A maximum award of ca. £19,340 per year be made to a Scholar who has no other sources of finance as follows:
Maintenance grant: £13,650 (estimate) (maximum award; see below)
University fees: £ 3,440
College fees: £ 2,250 (estimate)

National Geoscience Awards 2010: research work in any field of geoscience

The National Mineral Awards Scheme was instituted in the year 1966 by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The scope of the awards scheme has been expanded and changed to National Geoscience Award (NGA) from the year 2009 onwards. The objective of the scheme is to honour individuals and teams of scientists for their extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of fundamental / applied geosciences, mining and allied areas to provide incentive for striving toward excellence. Any citizen of India who is a professionally qualified geo-scientist / engineer / technologist / academician with significant contribution in any field of earth sciences is eligible.

THE Ministry of Mines invites nominations from the individuals/ team of geo-scientists / engineers / technologists/ academicians in order to recognize their meritorious contributions in the field of fundamental or applied geosciences, mining and allied areas with a view to provide them an incentive for striving towards excellence.

Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 a certificate, a citation and a trophy.

Young Researcher Award: This is a single award for research work in any field of geoscience to Researchers / Scientists from Universities, academic and professional institutions

Eligibility: Any citizen of India who is a professionally qualified geo-scientists / engineers technologists/ ademicians with significant contribution in any of the field specified in clause 3 of the regulation shall be eligible for the National Geoscience Awards.

Age: Below 30 years of age as on the 31st December of the Year of Award.

IISc. Summer Fellowship in Science and Engineering for SC/ST Students – 2011, India

ST/ST students studying I year M.Sc in science disciplines (Biological Sciences/ Physics, Chemistry/ Mathematics) or III year B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree, during the academic year 2010-11.

Selection Criteria:

IISc. will evolve a suitable criteria for selecting the candidates for the programme.

Financial Support:

IISc. will provide:
– Travelling allowance equivalent to II Class train fare from College/residence to IISc. and back.
– Free board and lodging (on shared basis) at IISc.
– Fellowship of Rs.5,000/- and a book grant of Rs.1500/-

Selected candidates will work with one of the IISc Faculty members and learn various techniques used in research for a period of one month during May-June 2011.
