PhD Studentship in Modern Languages at Newcastle University, UK

The School of Modern Languages is offering a full PhD studentship (Graduate Teaching Assistantship) starting in October 2011, to enable a student to carry out doctoral research on a topic in one of the following fields: Chinese and Japanese Studies; French and Francophone Studies; German Studies; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies; Film Studies; Linguistics; Translating and Interpreting Studies. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, the successful candidate will teach up to 6 hours per week and in return will receive: An annual stipend of £ 13,000 A waiver for UK/EU fees throughout the 3-year period. Appropriate training for doctoral research and teaching.The studentship will commence on 01/10/2011 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a period of 3 years. The Jordan Travel Grant for Research Students in the Department of the Study of Religions, SOAS, UK

The Jordan Travel Grant is made available to Research students in the Department of the Study of Religions to help with travel expenses incurred by their research projects.The Award is payable following the trip for which the expenses are being claimed. A receipt must be produced in order for the Award to be allocated.
On completion of the project for which the grant was awarded, a report on the work undertaken should be forwarded to the Jordan Travel Grant committee.The Receipt and report are to be submitted to Pascale Dionnet, room 326, in the Arts and Humanities Faculty Office within four weeks after completion of the travel for which the expenses are being claimed.
Please note that if a sufficient sum to cover all expenses detailed in the application was raised by other means, the award would be declined.The Department’s Jordan Travel Grant Committee will meet in March to decide upon the distribution of the awards, and those who have been granted an award will be informed shortly thereafter.

King Saud Foundation Prize for MPhil/PhD Studies at SOAS, UK

The King Saud Foundation Prize is available for students who are proposing to register full-time for a research degree at SOAS in the academic session 2011/12 in any area relating to sustainable development with reference to Saudi Arabia. There are two scholarships valued at £4,500 per year for a maximum of 3 years. The award will be used towards the cost of tuition fees. It will be paid to the student as a one-off payment at the beginning of each academic year. Renewal of the scholarship for the second and third year will be subject to satisfactory progress.Any full-time MPhil/PhD in the broad field of sustainable development with reference to Saudi Arabia.Only new research students may apply: those already enrolled on a research degree programme at SOAS are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must have applied for a place to study at the School by the scholarship closing date in order to be considered for the King Saud Foundation Prize.Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic record (preferably possess or expect to be awarded a Distinction in their Masters Degree) from a UK university. Applicants with a non-UK degree to be adjudged in the top rank by their referees and transcript. Applicants with a Merit may also apply, but may not be given preference.This scholarship is open to applicants paying fees at the UK/EU rate only.
