Joint Call for Proposals in Food Biotechnology Academy of Finland and Indian(DBT)

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Academy of Finland launch a joint call for proposals, the aim of which is to promote Indo-Finnish cooperation in the field of Food Biotechnology.
The focus is in the development of biotechnical processes in food and nutritional science research, covering all issues where biotechnology is applied. The 3-year projects can cover for example the following topics: food processing and food safety.The successful projects will be funded in India by the DBT and in Finland by the Academy of Finland. The joint projects must meet the criteria of the funding agencies. The research projects are funded for a maximum of three years.

The Finnish and Indian co-applicants will develop one joint research plan that will be sent to both the DBT and the Academy of Finland using the forms of each organisation, respectively. The applications must include a statement on how the proposed collaboration brings added valued for both countries.

The project budget must clearly delineate justified Finnish and Indian costs. The costs of the Finnish partner must be eligible as per the guidelines of the Academy of Finland. Accordingly, the costs of the Indian partner must be eligible as per the guidelines of the DBT. Applicants are reminded to include sufficient budget for travel between Finland and India to ensure successful collaboration.

Research Position in Centre for Studies in Science Policy at JNU, India: Socio-economic Study of Rainfed Agriculture and Low Input Animal Husbandry in India

Applications are invited from senior, middle and junior economists for a project entitled “Socio-economic Study of Rainfed Agriculture and Low Input Animal Husbandry in India”. The Economic Research Unit based at the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University is mandated to undertake macro-economic analyses, simulation modeling and case-study based analyses to improve our understanding of the functioning of rainfed dryland agriculture and its possible macroeconomic contribution in India. The objective of the Research Unit is to build an evidence-based case for directing more public investment to rainfed areas and the precise form such investment should take in the relevant sectors. The project is funded by the Ford Foundation and will run through December 31st, 2012.
A series of positions are being filled over the next few months, ranging from junior researchers to senior fellows. These are not time-bound positions, and hence applications are invited on a continuing basis. Successful candidates will need to have a PhD in Economics and some combination of experience of conducting field surveys, demonstrable abilities with statistical and econometric packages and a reasonable publication record. Salaries  for the respective positions will be awarded as per agreed upon in the final project budget. 2011-12 Undergraduate Scholarship for Siblings, West Liberty University, USA

Undergraduate Scholarships in the amount of $1500 per year are available for entering first-
time freshmen for the fall 2011 semester. The waivers will be awarded to first-time freshmen who will also have a sibling returning for enrollment at West Liberty during the fall 2011 semester.Entering freshman who are awarded an undergraduate waiver will be eligible to receive it for up toeight semesters.
students receiving a tuition & fee specific scholarship or grant, i.e. PROMISE Scholarship, will not negligible for an undergraduate scholarship.
Students will be ranked for these scholarships according to financial need. Other minimum requirements are listed below.. Must be a legal resident of West Virginia
. Must have financial need, as determined by the 2011-12 Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA)
. Must have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.50
. Must be enrolled as a full-time student
. Sibling attending West Liberty University for the fall 2011 semester must be pre-registered by
the June 1 application deadline
