Genome Science and Technology Graduate Scholarship, Canada

A new multidisciplinary graduate program combining training in genomics, with intensive training in new leading-edge genome science technologies, such as high-throughput techniques that acquire information from DNA sequence (genomics), protein expression and interactions (proteomics), and gene expression patterns (transcriptomics) to exploit information for a better understanding of biology. The GSAT program provides the opportunity for students to spend their first year engaged in research rotations designed to maximize the exposure to a broad range of research topics before committing to a thesis project and supervisor.

2011 ERCIM Alain Bensoussan Fellowship Programme: Clouds, Grids, Computational Biology

Fellowships are generally of 24 months duration, spent in two of the ERCIM institutes.A fellowship of 12 months duration spent in one institute might be offered. Only ERCIM members can host fellows. For information about the possible hosting institutes, see “ERCIM members” and follow the links to the homepages of the individual members, or contact the national contact for the ERCIM Fellowship Programme for a specific insitute. When an ERCIM member is a consortium (such as AARIT, CRCIM, PEG, PLERCIM, SARIT, SpaRCIM, Irish Universities Association) the hosting institute might be any of the consortium’s members.

When an ERCIM Member is a funding organisation (FNR for Luxembourg; FWO/FNRS for Belgium), the hosting institute might be any of their affiliates.Fellowships are proposed according to the needs of the member institutes and the available funding.

What are the conditions?
* have obtained a PhD degree during the last 8 years (prior to the application deadline) or be in the last year of the thesis work with an outstanding academic record
* be fluent in English
* be discharged or get deferment from military service
* the fellowship is restricted to two terms (one reselection possible)
* have completed the PhD before starting the grant (a proof will be requested).

We encourage not only researchers from academic institutions to apply, but also scientists working in industry.

The Fellowships are available for PhD holders from all over the world.

In order to encourage mobility:
* a member institute will not be eligible to host a candidate of the same nationality.
* a candidate cannot be hosted by a member institute, if by the start of the fellowship, he or she has already worked in this institute for a total of 6 months or more, during the last 3 years.

PhD Fellowship in Plant Epigenetics, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The work of the PhD fellow will consist mainly of duties in connection with the research project Epigenetic regulation of plant traits. The project aims at discover new layers of regulation of plant appearance. In biology, and specifically genetics, epigenetics is the study of inherited changes in phenotype (appearance) or gene expression caused by mechanisms other than changes in the underlying DNA sequence. These changes may remain through cell divisions for the remainder of the cell´s life and may also last for multiple generations. However, there is no change in the underlying DNA sequence of the organism; instead, non-genetic factors cause the organism´s genes to express themselves differently. The project is part of the program in the Centre for Membrane Pumps in Cells and Disease – PUMPKIN.
The position is available for a 4-year period for applicants who are already enrolled or are accepted to be enrolled at one of the Faculty´s master´s programmes.
At the time of commencement, applicants for the 4-year period must have approximately one year of study remaining before graduating from their MSc programme.

The successful applicant of the PhD scholarship must pass an enrolment in the LIFE Graduate School before the Faculty can finish the letter of employment.
Graduate School of Faculty of Life Sciences, LIFE strives to give our students the best international career prospects within our main research areas.
