RoSPA / BNFL Scholarship Scheme

BNFL has endowed RoSPA with a special fund to finance a scholarship scheme over the next ten years to enable students;’to carry out research into safety and accident prevention that will produce defined, practical and influential outcomes to help save lives and prevent injuries.’
Applications are invited for the third round of funding available through the RoSPA/BNFL accident prevention scholarship.
The scheme provides support for safety-related research that will produce defined, practical and influential outcomes to help save lives and prevent injuries in the UK and around the world. It was established with £500,000 of legacy funding following the winding up of BNFL (British Nuclear Fuels).

ATLAS PhD Positions at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University, Denmark

Scholarship Description: A Ph.D. studentship is for 3 years, if the applicant has completed a Master degree in physics by mid-February, but can also be for 4 years, if the applicant has not yet begun a Master project. Terms of appointment and salary are set by agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Association of Academics in the State (AC). The studentships are funded by the Danish Foundation for Basic Research, the Danish Research Council for Natural Sciences and the Lundbeck foundation.

Applications should be submitted by 21th of January, 2011, and should include:

* A statement of research interests (max. 2 pages).
* Transcript of exams passed (the Master degree may be submitted with a delay of up to two weeks.)
* CV, including prior computing and research experience (max. 2 pages)
* 2-3 letters of reference

PhD Studentship in MS-based Proteomics, Denmark

The Department of Proteomics at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research is offering a PhD stipend in the Proteomics and Cell Signaling Group. The position is offered for a period of three years and employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) on 1 October 2008, enclosure 5. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and AC within the range of 23.000-30.000 DKK/month (approximately 3.100-4.000 Euro/month) for a PhD position plus a pension supplement of 17 %.
The PhD candidate will be expected, over the period of the stipend, to acquire experience in teaching or other types of presentations. The tentative start date is 1 March 2011.

Qualifications:
* The candidate is required to have a M.Sc. or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
* Excellent academic track record.
* Prior experience in biochemistry, cell culture and/or protein chemistry techniques is desirable.
* Knowledge in one or more of the following area(s) would be considered an advantage: genetics and biology, cell signaling, high-throughput protein-protein interactions, or chromatin biology.
* Prior experience in high resolution mass spectrometry is not essential.
* Good communication skills, both oral and written.
* An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
* Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.
