2011 Postgraduate Scholarships for Applicants from Developing Countries, University of Nottingham, UK

Launched in 2001, Developing Solutions is The University of Nottingham’s flagship scholarship programme.It is targeted at students from developing countries and uses a variety of internal and external sources to offer one of the most attractive scholarship packages in the country.The scholarships are aimed at Masters level courses in the broad areas of environment, food, health, science and technology – those most likely to enhance progress in developing countries.

To qualify for this scholarship you must:
be classed as an overseas student for fees purposes, and
hold an offer to start a full-time Masters degree programme (including MRes) in 2010 for an eligible course.

Eligible countries: All courses in the Department of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science. Additionally some courses in the School of Geography, the Institute for Science & Society, the Institute of Work, Health & Organisations and courses allied to Operations Management in the Business School.One full tuition fee scholarship is also available for a student from Africa for the MSc in Crop Improvement in the School of Biosciences.

Studentships in MPhil in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, UK

The Wellcome Trust, in partnership with the University of Cambridge and GlaxoSmithKline, have funded an interdisciplinary training programme in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (TMAT) with the objective of creating a cadre of outstanding clinical scientists with the skills to ‘translate science into medicines’. A key aspect of the Training is the MPhil course in TMAT consisting of taught modules by leading academics and clinicians across Cambridge and GSK, two exams, one project and a final dissertation. The curriculum covers all aspects of TMAT, from basic pharmacological principles and drug development, to designing and running clinical trials. Each student will work closely with a supervisor to develop a tailored training programme. Every year students will have opportunities to apply to continue their training to doctoral level.

Students will be based at the Addenbrooke’s Centre for Clinical Investigation. This building was funded by the MRC, BHF, Wellcome Trust and GSK to promote collaboration among its constituent University, NHS, and GSK groups.

Entry Requirements
This course is open to medical and non-medical graduates. Basic entry requirements are mandatory. A first degree of at least 2i honours form a UK University or equivalent demonstration of academic capability is required. Non-medical applicants generally have degrees in a quantitative science or a health related area. Other applicants will be judged on an individual basis depending on relevant previous experience.

The Colombo Plan – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore Postgraduate Scholarships 2011/2012

In December 1977 the Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic Development in South and Southeast Asia was changed to The Colombo Plan for Co-operative Economic and Social Development in Asia and the Pacific, to reflect the expanded geographical composition of its enhanced membership and the scope of its activities. The primary focus of all Colombo Plan activities is human resources development in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the years, the programme content of the Colombo Plan has been adjusted to respond to the needs of member countries in a fast changing economic environment. In the early years, the training programmes were more of a long-term nature whilst the current programmes are established to provide advance skills and experience sharing, aimed at arriving at the best practices in different fields of economic and social activities for effective policy making and governance.

Language
The postgraduate programmes are taught in English.
Duration :The scholarship will be awarded for full-time study over duration of one year

Scholarship Up to 2 scholarships are available under this CPS – Singapore collaboration programme

Singapore Postgraduate Areas of Study Except in Medicine and Dentistry, candidates may pursue their Master Degree studies in areas of interest offered by the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Singapore Management University.

Invited Countries : Colombo Plan Developing Member countries.
