Excellence Fellowship Programme, UK: Mental Health and Neurosciences

As part of its strategy to continuously enhance & renew its research profile, the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London is launching its new Excellence Fellowship Programme to recruit and develop outstanding early career researchers.
These prestigious awards will allow young scientists to develop their independent careers as world class academic leaders in their chosen field within mental health and neurosciences. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate in research programmes within the Institute of Psychiatry.
Excellence Fellowships provide a competitive salary initially for three years as well as appropriate start up support as a foundation on which to launch their own programme of work. Recipients of these awards will be in a position to compete for academic positions within King’s College London and / or career development or senior fellowships from funders such as the Research Councils.

Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of South Dakota , USA: Biology

The Sanford Project has Postdoctoral Positions immediately available to study beta cell regeneration in mouse model of human type 1 diabetes at Sanford Health/University of South Dakota. A Ph.D. or M.D. degree with background in cellular and molecular biology is required. Experience in tissue culture, gene expression analysis such as real-time PCR and gene microarray, protein assay such as western blotting, and confocal microscopy are be highly desirable. The Sanford Project, an emerging translational research center focused on treating type 1 diabetes is funded by Sanford Health, a $400 million gift to Sanford Health by Denny Sanford, a $10 million donation from the Todd & Linda Broin family, and by extramural funding. The positions are located at the new Sanford Research Center (300,000 sq ft) in Sioux Falls, SD. An established collaboration with the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, CA, provides for an integrated, world class, academic research environment.

Beachell- Borlaug International Scholars Program, India: Plant Breeding and Genetics

Recognizing the importance of rice and wheat in global food security, Monsanto Company pledged $10 million to improve yields in these crops as part of its commitment to sustainable yield. Monsanto’s Beachell-Borlaug International Scholars Program is the result of that pledge. Monsanto established this program in 2009 in honor of two of the world’s most pre-eminent rice and wheat breeders: Drs. Henry Beachell and Norman Borlaug. Their lifelong work laid the foundation for the tremendous increases in rice and wheat production that continue to help feed the world today.

The primary objective of this prestigious fellowship program is to develop highly educated rice and wheat plant breeders who can serve as future agricultural leaders. It will be administered by Texas AgriLife Research, an agency of the Texas A&M University System.

* Provides a full package of support, including a generous student stipend, tuition, applicable fees, health insurance, research fees and travel, as well as funds for the collaborating institution and advising professor
* Supports projects that allow the student to develop advanced breeding techniques, as well as experience conducting at least one season of field work in a developing country
* Is open to students worldwide who are seeking a Ph.D. in rice or wheat plant breeding
