The Prosper.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Award in Sustainable Development, Germany

The Prosper.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Award in Sustainable Development is given annually to young scientists or researchers, based in the Asia-Pacific region, who have made significant contributions in the area of Sustainable Development.

Eligibility and Application Process

The award is open to those engaged in graduate education and research activities that emphasize sustainable development in any of the above three areas. Candidates are expected to be employed at institutions of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding USA and Canada), and should have completed their PhD. degree between 1 July 2006 and 1 July 2011.

Candidates may be put forth by nomination or direct application. Nominations and applications must be supported by two letters of recommendation.

Evaluation Process
All qualified applications will be evaluated by an international panel of three recognized experts in Sustainable Development in each of the three areas.

2011 ALA General Scholarship Program in Library and Information Studies, USA

ALA has general scholarships that are open to all applicants who have applied for admission to a formal program of library and information studies leading to a master’s degree.  ALA also has scholarships people from underrepresented groups, for library support staff, and scholarships for speciality or practice area. All ALA Scholarships can be applied for through the ALA Scholarship Program. ALA General Scholarships include: Marshall Cavendish  – this general scholarship of $3,000 was established from donations from the Marshall Cavendish Corporation, Tarrytown, NY, publishers of illustrated reference books for libraries. David H. Clift – this general scholarship of $3,000 was named for a former director of the American Library Association. Christopher Hoy/ERT – this general scholarships of $5,000 was named for a long time ALA staff member who was Director of ALA Conference Services for over 20 years.  This scholarship was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory. Applicants for ALA General Scholarships must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident; must attend an ALA accredited master’s program; must not have completed more than 12 semester hours towards MLS/MLIS/MIS prior to June 1 of the year awarded; and must submit a complete application.

KOLUMB Fellowship Programme for Polish Postdoctoral Applicants: Bio, Information, Technology

The stipends are awarded for a stay at one research centre, or in justified instances more than one. Stipendees who would like to extend their stay abroad may seek additional funding, on a one-time basis (for 3 months at most), but the duration of the stipend may not exceed 15 months in any event.

To be eligible to apply for a stipend, researchers must:
* hold a doctorate
* file a stipend application no later than 4 years after obtaining the doctorate, which period is extended by 2 years in the case of: men who took documented paternity leave or childrearing leave for at least 3 months, or women who gave birth to a child or adopted a child, based on the birth certificate or adoption certificate

* hold Polish citizenship, or obtained in Poland a permit to settle or a permit for long-term residence in the European Union

Scholarship Application Deadline:1 March 2011 and the second deadline this year is 15 October 2011.
