Joint Masters and Doctorate Scholarship Programs in Photonics Engineering, Nanophotonics and Biophotonics

Photonics is constantly growing and brings together today a large range of interdisciplinary activities in health, environment, energy, transport and telecommunications, with either immediate or long term social and economic outcomes. Photonics plays a key part in the discovery of new processes in nature and novel technologies, with an undeniable incidence on fundamental knowledge developments but also on the market novelties.
This two years master program is organized by three groups of institutions:
* Paul Cézanne Aix Marseille III University (FRANCE) (coordinator)
* KSOP (Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics) : KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) (GERMANY)
* Barcelona Universities (SPAIN) :
o UPC – Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya
o ICFO – Institute of Photonic Sciences
o UB – Universitat de Barcelona
o UAB – Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona

The EuroPhotonicsEMJDDoctorate program addresses, in the laboratories of the consortium below, the coming challenges in Photonics Engineering, Nanophotonics and Biophotonics. This doctorate program is based on a consortium of excellence research institutes and universities in the field, which goal is to involve co-tutelle doctorate students in cutting-edge research projects profiting from the complementarity between the partners, as well as a wide range of research training and teaching plans that includes fundamental and general sciences, technology, languages and communication, research and industrial management, technology transfer, career exploratory support, international meetings, workshops and conference participation.

This three-year doctorate program is organized by five institutions:
* Institut Fresnel (Paul Cézanne Aix Marseille III University) (FRANCE)
* KSOP (Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics) : KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) (GERMANY)
* UPC – Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (SPAIN)
* ICFO – Institute of Photonic Sciences (SPAIN)
* LENS (European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy) (Universita degli Studi di Firenze) (ITALY)

ARC Linkage Grant in Autoconfiguration of Critical Network Infrastructure, Australia: Mathematical Science

Applications are invited for the following scholarship leading to the degree of PhD in mathematical science.
The scholarship is supported by the Australian Research Council Linkage grant scheme and CQR Consulting.
Australia’s critical infrastructure, e.g., water and electricity, rely more and more on computer networks. The goal of this project is to improve the security of these networks. The focus of the work will be on mathematical representations of the security system’s elements, with a view to allowing network and security specification to take place at a high level, and be automatically implemented without dealing with the minutia of configuration of individual devices such as firewalls and servers.  The potential impacts of the project include improvements to security in vital power stations and water plants, as well as improvements in efficiency in these same areas.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 28 February 2011
