NordWel Summer School 2011, Finland: Political economy of welfare states

CoE NordWel in cooperation with the Department of History, Stockholm University, and the Institute for Future Studies, Stockholm, organize an international summer school in Stockholm, 21–26 August 2011.
Welfare states can be studied from a number of theoretical and methodological approaches, with various chronological perspectives and with a focus on different empirical phenomena. The aim of the summer school is to stimulate discussions across disciplines and thereby foster innovative cross-disciplinary research on the development of welfare states over time. To this purpose the Summer School bring together Ph.D. students and well-established scholars in scientific exchanges.
Distinguished international scholars lecture in sessions covering different themes such as the political economy of welfare states, conceptualisations of welfare, religion and welfare policies, civic society and public support for welfare states.
The list of senior scholars, who have confirmed their participation, includes Sonya Michel (Woodrow Wilson Centre for International Studies, University of Maryland), Kees van Kersbergen (Aarhus Universitet), Noel Whiteside (University of Warwick), Jonas Pontusson (Princeton University, Université de Genève), Kimberly Morgan (George Washington University), Christoph Conrad (Université de Genève), Adalbert Evers (Universität Giessen), Stefan Svallfors (Umeå Universitet), Jenny Andersson (Sciences-po, CERI, Paris), Joakim Palme (Institutet för Framtidsstudier/Institute for Future Studies, Stockholm & Uppsala Universitet), Pauli Kettunen (Helsingin Yliopisto), Klaus Petersen (Syddansk Universitet Odense).
The Course fee is 190 Euros. Accommodation is financed by NCoE NordWel. A limited number of travel grants will be available.

The Center for Cell Biology & Cancer Research at the Albany Medical College is now seeking to fill one postdoctoral research position in cancer research. The successful candidate will be investigating the role of a putative tumor suppressor in the DNA damage response and the development of cancer. As such, the candidate must have prior experience in the field of cancer research. Experience with animals (particularly genetically-engineered mouse).Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology or related fields, and should be highly motivated, independent, and have demonstrated productivity in graduate work. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Strategies (SETS) 2011

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Strategies (SETS) is an international programme offered by six of the most renowned universities in this field of knowledge.
The doctorate copes with the challenge to lead the technological transition required by today’s world, where a compromise must be reached between energy and sustainability. Some of the research topics of the programme are future energy networks, regulation and economics of energy systems in future European scenarios and sustainable development.
SETS Joint Doctorate is the only Ph.D. programme on energy and sustainability awarded the Erasmus Mundus excellence label by the European Commission. This excellence label has been granted only to twenty two international doctorates in all disciplines and Universities across Europe so far.
