PhD Positions at Faculty of Business and Economics, Catholic University of Leuven, Netherlands

We offer an employment as full-time doctoral scholar starting on 1 September 2011, for 1 year, renewable till 4 years. The Research Center for Operations Management focusses its research on production planning, project planning and healthcare planning. The aim is to publish in international scientific journals on problems based on real-life cases.
• You will conduct research and work towards a PhD in Applied economics on the topic “Project planning in
public-private partnerships (PPP)”. The focus will be on how to optimize the planning of PPP projects.
• These long-term projects (possibly 30 -60 years) are heavily subject to risks. You will research how such risks can be spread optimally over the different partners. Main topics are the bidding process (determination of the optimal necessary investment and the bid itself) as well as risk analysis and risk prevention. This research is performed under the supervision of Prof. Erik Demeulemeester.
• You are also expected to participate in seminars and conferences, and to enroll in the PhD program of
the Faculty of Business and Economics. You can be asked to give guidance to students (e.g., by
supervising their master’s thesis) and to supervise exams.
• You will find a dynamic and pleasant working environment, in a group that is actively involved in scientific research at the highest international level.
• You preferably have a background as Master of Science in Commercial Engineering, Applied Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Civil Engineering.
• A decent knowledge of written and spoken English is required.
• You should have a strong interest in doing research.
Master’s and undergraduate students in their last year are especially encouraged to apply.

PhD Position in Green Chemistry and Catalysis, Sweden

The PhD position is for four years, extendable to a maximum of five years by including department duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching).
Qualifications required: To qualify for a Ph D position the applicant must have at least a bachelor degree or equivalent of basic university education with a major in chemistry. It will be seen as a merit if the candidate has a master degree in chemistry. We are looking for a devoted and hard-working candidate willing to work in an interdisciplinary and stimulating research field.

PhD Position in Spectroscopy on Conjugated Polymers, Netherlands

You will study the dynamics of excitons and charge carriers with femtosecond and nanosecond pump-probe laser techniques, including microwave and terahertz conductivity measurements. In addition, high-energy electron pulses can be used specifically to generate charges.Candidates for the PhD position must have a university degree in physics or chemistry, and ideally some experience with time-resolved spectroscopy. For the Post-doc position a doctoral degree related to time-resolved spectroscopy is required.

Conditions of Employment at FOM .When filling a PhD position at the FOM foundation, you will have the status of junior scientist.You will have employee status and can participate in all the employee benefits FOM offers.You will have a four-year contract. Your salary will be up to a maximum of €2,457 gross per month.You are supposed to have a thesis finished at the end of your four-year term with FOM.A training programme is part of the agreement. You and your supervisor will make up a plan for the additional education and supervision that you specifically need. This plan also defineswhich teaching activities you will be responsible for (up to a maximum of 10% of your time).
