Roskilde International Doctoral Summer School, Denmark: Education, Migration, Literature, Technologies

The aims of the Roskilde Summer School are threefold:
– to help students grasp and critically engage with the notions of identity and intercul-turality and see how they are related
– to get to know various research methods that can help students to work within cul-tural and social complexity
– to discuss their own research topics and to get to test various research tools that can help them to move on in/improve their research
The Summer School is meant to be transdisciplinary, and the target group is PhD students from all disciplinary backgrounds who are especially interested in methodologies related to this field of study.

Greenet International Research Positions: Cooperative communications, cognitive networks and network coding

Greenet is an Initial Training Network (ITN) Marie Curie project that is focused on the analysis, design, and optimization of energy efficient wireless communication systems and networks.

It will create a fully-integrated and multi-disciplinary network of 17 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) working in 10 first-class institutions distributed in 7 European countries. The consortium is formed by 3 Universities, 3 Research Centers and 4 Private Companies. This Network will offer to a group of newly recruited ESRs a cross-sectorial environment to shape their long-term research view and get fundamental methodological tools on various research fields (such as, cooperative communications, cognitive networks and network coding).

The positions offered within the project are the following:

Universities:

– 3 positions in the Technical University of Catalonia-UPC-BarcelonaTECH, Spain.
– 2 positions in the University of Edinburg, UK.
– 2 positions in the University of Trento, Italy.

Research Centers:
– 1 position in the Telecommunications Technical Centre of Catalonia
(CTTC), Spain.
– 2 positions in the Institute of Telecommunications, Portugal.
– 2 positions in the NCSR Demokritos, Greece.

Industrial partners:
– 2 positions in WEST Aquila, Italy
– 1 position in Acticom, Germany
– 1 position in EADS, France
– 1 positions in Innoroute, Germany

Eligibility
* The recruited researchers should be, at the time of selection, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers (measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate).
* ESR should not already have a PhD and they should have the qualifications to embark on a PhD program.
* At the time of selection by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
* ESR (regardless of their nationalities) must not have resided or carried out their main activities (work, studies, etc.) in the host country for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.

2011 PhD Fellowship in University Duisburg-Essen, Germany: Sociology, Political Science or Economics.

The research training group Risk and East Asia offers seven doctoral stipends of 1000 Euro/month for a duration of three years, contingent on successful completion of the first year.
Doctoral candidates are expected to develop a doctoral research project in one of the four sub-themes of the program. The doctoral degree is awarded by one of the affiliated faculties in sociology, political science or economics.

To support field research in East Asia and early entry into the European scientific community, support is also provided for travel and research in either Japan or China, and for a range of workshops and independent conference participation in Europe, especially with the UK Partner White Rose East Asian Centre at the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield.There is no separate funding application, because all admitted applicants receive a stipend.Tuition fees are waived for doctoral students, though candidates are required to pay an administrative fee of about 150 Euros per semester, which includes a train pass for the entire federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
