TWAS-CONACYT Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, Mexico: Natural Sciences

TWAS-CONACYT Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable at eligible institutions of higher education and research in Mexico for a minimum period of six to a maximum period of twelve months and are awarded to young scientists from developing countries (other than Mexico) to enable them to pursue advanced research in the natural sciences and related fields.
2. A list of research institutions in Mexico where TWAS-CONACYT Fellowships are tenable.
3. CONACYT will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food.
4. CONACYT will also provide a fixed amount for mandatory health insurance coverage.

Eligibility
Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:

* Be a maximum age of 40 years on 31 December of the year of application.
* Be nationals of a developing country (other than Mexico).
* Hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences.
* Be regularly employed in a developing country (other than Mexico) and hold a research assignment there.
* Provide an official Acceptance Letter from the host institution from an eligible institution in Mexico. Only listed higher education institutions in Mexico are eligible (see point 2 above). A sample Acceptance Letter is included in the application form which can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of the page unter “related content”.
* Prove knowledge of Spanish or provide a certificate of proficiency in English (if these languages are not the candidate’s mother tongue).

Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of South Dakota , USA: Biology

The Sanford Project has Postdoctoral Positions immediately available to study beta cell regeneration in mouse model of human type 1 diabetes at Sanford Health/University of South Dakota. A Ph.D. or M.D. degree with background in cellular and molecular biology is required. Experience in tissue culture, gene expression analysis such as real-time PCR and gene microarray, protein assay such as western blotting, and confocal microscopy are be highly desirable. The Sanford Project, an emerging translational research center focused on treating type 1 diabetes is funded by Sanford Health, a $400 million gift to Sanford Health by Denny Sanford, a $10 million donation from the Todd & Linda Broin family, and by extramural funding. The positions are located at the new Sanford Research Center (300,000 sq ft) in Sioux Falls, SD. An established collaboration with the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, CA, provides for an integrated, world class, academic research environment.

TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, Kenya: Natural Sciences

TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowships in natural sciences are tenable for a minimum period of six months to a maximum period of twelve months at the departments of the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kenya.

Eligible icipe departments: Fellowships are tenable at icipe in the Programmes of Animal Health, Human Health, Plant Health, Environmental Health, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology, in the Department of Entomology, and at the field station of Mbita, Lake Victoria, Kenya.
icipe will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility

Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* apply for the TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowship within 5 years of completion of their PhD qualification;
* be nationals of a developing country (other than Kenya);
* hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences;
* be regularly employed in a developing country (other than the host country) and hold a research assignment there;
* provide evidence that s/he will return to their home country on completion of the fellowship;
* not take up other assignments during the period of his/her fellowship;
* be accepted at an icipe department and provide an official acceptance letter from the head of the department (see sample Acceptance Letter) to this effect. Requests for acceptance must be directed to Lillian Igweta (see contact details below);
* provide evidence of proficiency in English;
* be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.
