SMART Scholars Programme for Postdoctoral Research, Singapore

We are now accepting qualified applications for the SMART 2011 Scholars Programme. These awards will provide a unique opportunity for recent or soon to be PhD graduates to participate in the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre in Singapore, and to become members of an alumni network that we anticipate will continue to evolve and expand over the years.
The awards, to be given annually, are open to those with less than three years postdoctoral experience and provided they have received their doctoral degree by September 1, 2011. The fellowship recipient would be able to conduct research of his/her own choice in Singapore within, but not necessarily tied closely to, a current project in one of the four existing SMART Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs). It is anticipated that the recipients will take up their appointments at SMART by September 1, 2011 or earlier.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 15 April 2011

Postdoctoral Research Associate / Career Development Fellowship in Public Health Research, UK

The UKCRC Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR) is one of 5 Centres of Excellence in Public Health Research. CEDAR is driven by the overall goal of developing effective public health interventions for changing population level diet and physical activity behaviours.
CEDAR invites applications for a number of Post Doctoral Research Associate positions. The roles will follow the model of the MRC Career Development Fellowship Scheme which provides post-doctoral scientists with a fixed term training position to improve their research and transferable skills.
Successful applicants will have completed doctoral studies in a relevant discipline and have a background or interest in public health research. The wide breadth of partners within CEDAR provides and excellent environment for research training and development.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 8 March 2011

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Membrane Pump Structure and Function, UK

Applications are invited from post-doctoral scientists to join a group directed by Professors Vassilis Koronakis and Colin Hughes, using molecular, biochemical, biophysical and structural biology approaches to study TolC-dependent tripartite pumps that direct (type I) protein toxin secretion and (multi)drug efflux by bacteria.

Applicants should have a PhD and a background in biochemistry and molecular biology, and experience in biochemical, biophysical and/or structural biology approaches would be beneficial. The successful candidate will apply biochemical approaches e.g. site-specific cross-linking, ITC, fluorescence spectroscopy, to study membrane proteins and complexes, and mechanisms of export and efflux.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 18 February 2011.
