2011 David Fleming-Brown Scholarship for Master’s and PhD Students, UK

The 2011 round of the David Fleming-Brown Travel Scholarship is now open to applications. The University of Glasgow is delighted to announce the third year of the David Fleming-Brown Travel Scholarship, a Postgraduate Research (PGR) travel award. This Scholarship offers the opportunity for PGR students (PhD or Masters by Research) registered at the University of Glasgow to travel to a North American Institution to enhance their academic experience and to develop new research collaborations with that institution.
Eligibility:

  • The Scholarship is open to all PGR students from any academic discipline currently registered at the University of Glasgow.
  • Candidates must be citizens of an EU or EEA country.  This scheme is not open to overseas students.
  • Placements should be in a North American Institution and for the duration of at least 3 months.
  • Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of his/her academic record and scholarship proposal showing the potential for opportunities to strengthen new research collaborations.
  • Successful applicants will be notified in late May 2011. Funds will be available from early August 2011.

    2011 Jim Gatheral Scholarship for International Students at University of Glasgow, UK: Mathematical modelling

    The 2011 round of the Jim Gatheral Scholarship is now open to applications. The University of Glasgow is delighted to present the Jim Gatheral Scholarship, a postgraduate travel award intended to enhance a doctoral student’s experience of mathematical modeling, to provide funding to allow the award holder to undertake a placement lasting between two months and one year at a centre of advanced study preferably outwith the UK in order to enrich and further their academic experience and research achievements; to learn or develop new techniques in the field of mathematical modelling;  to benefit the University of Glasgow by introducing new skills to the University or creating/furthering research collaborations with international centres of excellence. Candidates should provide a detailed plan of their suggested use of the Scholarship along with a supporting statement from their School/Research Institute. The candidate’s supervisor will be required to endorse the application and confirm that the scholarship will make a significant contribution to the candidate’s research.

    Eligibility: open to all postgraduate research students studying for a doctoral degree (PhD) whose research would benefit from new developments in mathematical modelling; Home/EU & International students currently registered at the University of Glasgow; open to high calibre students who have (in the opinion of the Selection Panel) already shown academic distinction and promise in the early phase of their research studies, a record of public service in the community,  English language ability

    2011-2012 Masters Scholarships, Swansea University, UK: Environmental Biology Conservation and Resource Management, Environmental Dynamics and Climatic Change

    These scholarships are part of the Access to Masters (ATM) programme backed by the Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Assembly Government.  Small and medium sized organisations located in the Convergence Area of Wales (Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Swansea & Torfaen) are invited to participate in the muli-disciplinary initiative and benefit from a postgraduate research project tailored to meet the specific needs of the organisation as each MSc student will undertake a project assigned to an organisation. The School has a large number of fully-funded scholarships available for the following programmes: MSc Global Migration, Politics and Societ. MSc Environmental Biology: Conservation and Resource Management. MSc Environmental Dynamics and Climatic Change
    Eligibility: 1Only Masters applicants from the UK or EU will be eligible, Applicants should hold (or be expecting to achieve) a minimum of a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) , Applicants should have already applied formally to the University for a place on one of the above programmes.   If you have not yet applied for a place to study, please visit the Admissions Office website for information regarding application.
