University Prize Scholarships, UK

Each year the University offers a number of Prize Scholarships to the very best PhD applicants.
University Prize Scholarships cover the cost of the tuition fees and provide an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend of £16,000. The recipient will also receive a Research Training Support Grant of £2,000 to claim back expenses related to their research, such as travel, conferences, books, consumables, equipment, and other miscellaneous items.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation and comprising the Directors of Research & Innovation from the five faculties. The strongest candidates will be submitted by the faculties into a University-wide competition, from which the Prize Scholarships will be awarded.
Awards are tenable for a maximum of three years full-time and six years part-time subject to satisfactory progress.

Senior Research Positions at HiLASE, Czech Republic: Laser Physics

HiLASE (High-average power pulsed lasers) is a brand new national project aimed at development of novel type of diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) intended for industrial and scientific applications. The project realization team from the Institute of Physics AS CR, v.v.i. is seeking a candidate for the position of: Senior Researcher

Key Responsibilities:
1. Active participation on designing and implementing the laser system projects.
2. Development of the existing projects and working on the improvement and correcting of the system parameters.
3. Designing of concepts and looking for the potential applications.
4. Leading the experimental work.
5. Publishing, participating on the conference, trainings and preparing tender documentation.

Key Requirements:
1. PhD in Laser Physics.
2. Working experience in experimental work in laser physics min. 3 years in solid-state lasers.
3. English language on a very good level (written and spoken).
4. Ability to work independently, featuring strong initiative, inventiveness, and resourcefulness.
5. Excellent organizational skills.
6. Have a team-based approach and mindset.
7. Strong motivation, loyalty and reliability in the work place.
8. Willing to travel

Master/Ph.D. Studentships in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Canada

Up to 4 graduate student positions in theoretical and computational chemistry will become available in my group by May 2011, September 2011 or January 2012. The successful applicants will be involved with the development of new computational methods or applications of state-of-the-art methodology to problems of chemical interest. .The applicant should have a solid background in Physical Chemistry, and a strong interest in Theoretical/Computational Chemistry as well as an average GPA corresponding to 3.5/4.0 (80 %) or more in the North American system. All foreign students will be covered by an inexpensive medical insurance. Students will be fully supported by teaching assistance ships and scholarships for a total of $ 22,000 to $24,000 CDN. The tuition fee is covered by additional research grants . Foreign students with English as a second language must pass the TOEFL test with a score of 580.
