International Research Position, International Potato Center, Peru

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes and sweetpotatoes, sustainable management of natural resources and urban agriculture. CIP’s vision is to contribute from its areas of expertise to the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in particular those goals that relate to poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, and sustainable development in rural and urban systems. CIP has its headquarters in Lima, Peru with staff and activities in locations across Africa, Asia and Latin America. CIP is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 60 donor members.

The Position: The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Nationally Recruited Scientist (NRS) for the Crop Management and Production Systems Division (Division 4). The primary responsibility will be to assist the Division Leader with research and program planning, and related management activities within the Division.

The successful candidate will have:

• MSc or PhD in Agronomy or other agricultural sciences discipline
• Minimum 10 years’ of recent related research experience
• Strong organizational skills
• Demonstrated capacity to prepare projects and reports
• Capacity to recognize and deal with situations requiring application of analytical thinking
• Strong proficiency in English and Spanish, both oral and written
• Creative and able to work well in teams
• Excellent computer skills (word processing, graphic and database)
• Excellent understanding of the work and programs of the Division

Specific Responsibilities:
• Strategic: Assists the Division/Program leader in planning, implementing and monitoring the strategic plan; in the preparation of the Medium Term Plan (MTP); in interactions with Mega Programs and the coordination of projects that may derive from Mega Programs; and with the Division Leader’s related responsibilities as a member of the CIP Program Committee.
• Research management: Supports the Division and Division Leader by monitoring the portfolio of projects related to the Division or Programs in terms of execution, reporting, and relationship with the MTP and preparation of MTP and MP related reports; by helping to identify priority ideas for funding, writing concept notes and proposals; by reviewing project reports to be sent to donors; and maintaining ongoing communications with staff implementing projects in the geographic programs in order to identify gaps and problems and assist in implementation of solutions.
• Research implementation: Supports/coordinates the implementation of research projects where the Division Leader could be the Principal Investigator (PI).
• Administration: Supports the preparation of projects for restricted or MP related projects, including costing; the implementation of the Activity Based Cost (ABC) model at the level of the Division or Program, and ongoing monitoring of the budget; and the maintenance of the One Corporate System once implemented.

Conditions: This is a local position. The employment contract will be for an initial one-year term with the possibility of renewal. The position will be based in Lima, Peru.

Akademie Schloss Solitude Fellowship for International Students

For the thirteenth time in 20 years the international residency program Akademie Schloss Solitude – located in Stuttgart, Germany – is granting approx. 60 residency fellowships of six to twelve months in duration.

Eligibility:

Fellowships are awarded to artists who finished their basic studies not more than five years before applying to Akademie Schloss Solitude or who are not older than 35. University or college students will not be considered for selection. Several fellowships are also awarded regardless of the applicant’s age.

Benefits:

-A combined apartment / studio, furnished with electricity, water and heat free of charge.
-A stipend amounting to Euro 1,000 monthly (plus one-time expenses incurred by the fellowship holder travelling to and from Stuttgart from his or her primary place of residence). The Akademie may also offer additional financial supplements, depending on its respective budget situation.
-A supplement for so-called double housekeeping;freight cost subsidy for the transport of materials, tools and instruments to and from Stuttgart; a project promotion subsidy and a one-time materials subsidy; in the case of non-German guests (from non EU-countries), assumption of part of their health insurance expenses.

Masters, PhD Scholarships for International Students in Graduate Training Centre of Neuroscience at the University of Tuebingen, Germany

The Graduate Training Centre of Neuroscience is the first international neuroscience Graduate School was established at the University of Tübingen in 1999. In the future, three Schools will provide research oriented career tracks – leading to a master or doctoral degree – that provide an ideal preparation for a career in science and academia. The three graduate programs will complement one another at best and, thus, provide a markedly broad sprectrum of neuroscience
research and training opportunities in Tübingen. Teaching is entirely in English.

• Entry requirements: BSc for master program; MSc, Diploma or MD for doctoral program.
• Application deadlines: January 15 for master program. Doctoral students may apply throughout the year.
• The selection procedure for a place on the master program is three stepped: (1) written application, (2) subject test, (3) interview. Students interested in a doctoral project may contact research groups of their interest directly.
• Scholarships are available for excellent international students. Doctoral students are generally funded through research grants.
• Tuition fees for master students amount to 610 Euros per month. Doctoral students are exempted.
