Post Graduate Scholarship at Newcastle University

A £2,500 postgraduate scholarship, towards fees and living expenses, shall be awarded each year to one student. The Scholarship holder shall also be given the opportunity to apply for a further £2,500 ‘golden handshake’ upon successful recruitment into an engineering position, following graduation.

The Scholarship is open to outstanding students who have successfully applied for one of the taught postgraduate courses at Newcastle University listed above.

Criteria for candidates:
• Must be a British National
• Hold a first class honours degree, in a relevant science or engineering discipline
• Must be applying to study for a postgraduate degree on one of the MSc programmes listed above at Newcastle University.

The Beineckle Memorial Scholarships 2010

Job Description: The scholarship provides $32,000 to support graduate education. The student will receive an initial $2,000 during the senior year and the remaining $30,000 is distributed within a two to five year period while the student completes graduate studies. Nominees are considered for superior strength of character, intellectual ability, and sense of purpose.
Eligibility

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a college junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree during the 2010-11 academic year.

2. Plan to pursue graduate studies in the arts, humanities or social sciences.

3. Must be a United States citizen or a United States national.

4. Must have received need-based financial aid during undergraduate career (See the Beinecke Scholarship website for information regarding acceptable documentation).

5. Must have a 3.8 GPA, or higher.

Application Information

Any junior interested in becoming UNC’s Beinecke nominee will need to prepare a preliminary application and submit it to the Office of Distinguished Scholarships, 225 Graham Memorial Hall, CB #3510, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3510 by January 17, 2011. The UNC nominee will be selected in late January and his or her final application will be due, at the Foundation, by the beginning of March, 2011.

Please submit one copy of each of the following items (single sided, unstapeled) to the UNC Office of Distinguished Scholarships, with the exception of the letters of recommendation which should be sent directly to our office from the recommended.

PhD Scholarship in Forestry and Environmental Science,

A full PhD scholarship valued at $27,000 per annum is available to work on a major externally funded project within the Environmental Futures Centre at Griffith University.

Project:     Wyaralong dam carbon offset and greenhouse gas investigation program

Funded by: Queensland Water Infrastructure

The successful PhD candidate will work on carbon dynamics in soils and sediments of Wyaralong dam areas under the joint supervision of Dr Chengrong Chen, Professor Zhihong Xu and Dr Tim Blumfield (all members of the Environmental Futures Centre).

Scholarship value and duration:

The full PhD scholarship is valued at $27,000 per annum.

Eligibility:

The scholarship is open to suitable candidates with first or second class honours (2A) degrees (or equivalent) in a relevant field, available to start immediately.
