PhD Research Fellowship in Analysis and Design of Civil Engineering Structures, Denmark

A position as a PhD Research Fellow in Analysis and Design of Civil Engineering Structures at the Department Technology and Innovation is available as of 1 March 2011 for a three-year period.

The purpose of the project is to develop plasticity based models for design and strength prediction of various types of structural joints between reinforced concrete structural components such as panels and slabs. The project includes analytical and numerical studies as well as experimental investigations.

Candidates with a M.Sc. degree in civil- or structural engineering, a strong background in concrete mechanics and documented experiences in structural testing are invited to apply.

The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD student at the PhD School at the Faculty of Engineering within the Research Training Program of Applied Mathematical Modeling.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years (5+3 program). Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the Fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Program at the Universities (PhD executive order).

Irish Government Scholarships in Science, Engineering and Technology

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) ‘EMBARK’ Initiative and the Enterprise Partnership Scheme (EPS) offer opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a postgraduate degree by research. The Scheme supports basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Scholarships are awarded only to those who will engage full-time in research during the period of the award.
While a majority of postgraduate Scholarships awarded by the Council are offered to European Union (EU) citizens, or to those who are ordinarily resident within a member state of the EU, a proportion of awards are also offered to exceptional candidates who are ordinarily resident in non EU member states.

Eligibility
IRCSET’s schemes support basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and Technology. Research which is deemed not to fall within this remit is not eligible for funding.
Under this scheme IRCSET offers opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a postgraduate degree by research in a recognised third-level institution.
The IRCSET postgraduate competition does not accept applications from:
a. Those currently registered as Ph.D. candidates
b. Those currently registered for a Masters degree (by research) with the exception of:
i. Individuals in the Institute of Technology (IOT) sector in receipt of Strand 1 funding wishing to transfer to the Ph.D. register (in this case, IRCSET will support these individuals for up to a maximum of 2 years i.e. total postgraduate funded research including strand 1 funding cannot exceed 3 years)
ii. Individuals registered for a Masters degree (by research) intending to complete and submit for this award and begin a significantly new research proposal to Ph.D. level

European Masters Education in Integrated Advanced Ship Design

The objective of the EMSHIP Erasmus Mundus Master is to provide a high education in Naval Architecture and Ship Design, through a 1.5 year – 90 Credits – Master Course accessible as Post Graduate studies, leading to a Double Master Degree from ULG-Liege, Belgium and ECN-Nantes, France) and a supplement diploma from Germany (Rostock), Italy (Genoa), Poland (Szczecin) or Romania (Galate).

EMSHIP corresponds directly to the needs of the European and Worldwide Marine Industry. The targeted candidates are:

*Candidates having already a master degree in another engineering field that would like to get a specialisation in Ship Design.
*Active engineering officers with 3-5 years seafaring work experience, that are looking for new knowledge to better fulfil their carrier objectives. There is indeed a large demand from ship-owners and port authorities to hire such officers, knowing what on-board service is, to manage and maintain their fleet.
*Candidates looking for complementary education in the Sailing Pleasure Crafts and Mega/Motor Yachts, but also in Safer and Cleaner Marine and Fluvial Transportation Mode.
*Engineers searching for advanced education in Hydrodynamics in Ship Design, Ship Production, CAD, Information Technology and Ship Structures.
