Online Distance Learning Scholarship in Applied and Professional Ethics, UK

Fees Scholarship for MA/PGDip in Applied and Professional Ethics at Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied (IDEA), a national Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Leeds.

Up to six scholarships will be available. These will normally cover up to half the value, or up to the full value, of the academic fees. For part-time students (who take the course over two years) the scholarship is subject to review at the end of the first year.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, which will be assessed by considering the candidate’s application to the University and supporting documents, and the interview conducted as part of the admissions process.

2011-2014 CCP PhD Studentship at University of East Anglia, UK: Economics, Law, Business and Political, Social and International Studies

The ESRC Centre for Competition Policy (CCP) based at the University of East Anglia (UEA), invites applications for a fully funded (3-year) PhD studentship from October 2011. These studentships can be held in area of competition or regulation policy appropriate for supervision by the Centre’s faculty members who come from the Schools of Economics, Law, Business and Political, Social and International Studies (see Appendix 1 for details regarding the academic staff at the Centre). CCP is the leading focus for competition policy research in the UK and welcomes interdisciplinary proposals. Criteria and Details This studentship is only available to candidates who have been offered a place in a relevant UEA PhD programme. Applications should apply both for entry to the appropriate school and the CCP for the studentship. Applicants should have a demonstrable interest in an area of competition policy. The PhD studentships are tenable for 3 years (subject to UEA rules, satisfactory progress and the research remaining in an area relating to competition policy). A full studentship includes home tuition fees plus a maintenance grant to be set by UEA at Home/EU levels. Doctoral Position in Peace Conflict Research with Focus on Negotiations and Natural Disasters, Sweden

The position is part of the Swedish Research School of Natural Disaster Mitigation and the project focuses on negotiations and natural disasters. The overarching purpose is to develop knowledge about how negotiations are best conducted in areas of relevance for natural disaster science. The capacity to manage and prevent natural disasters depends to a large extent on effective collaboration and coordination between state and other actors, which in turn require effective negotiations between them. One possible focus is on negotiations in the acute phases of a natural disaster (for example, concerning multilateral humanitarian assistance). Another possible focus is on negotiations aimed at building up capacity to manage and/or prevent natural disasters in the long term (including negotiations concerned with environmental and resource preservation which contributes to natural disaster prevention).

Qualifications: B.A. degree (or the equivalent) with course work relevant for peace and conflict research. At least 1.5 years of full-time study of one social science subject, at least one semester of study of peace and conflict (or closely related subject),
and preferably a Master’s (or corresponding) degree. Documented knowledge (studies) or experience of (or relevant for) negotiations is considered an additional qualification. A strong sense of motivation and good ability to work independently are important. Good knowledge of English in speech and writing is required.
