Katharine H. Putnam Fellowships in Plant Science,USA

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University invites applicants for research fellowships in plant science. Putnam Fellowships offer excellent opportunities for advanced research and study using the Arboretum’s living collections of trees and shrubs. Scientists and horticulturists with a PhD and who have identified a research project that would utilize the Arboretum’s living collections are encouraged to apply.
Putnam Fellows conduct basic and applied research in the plant sciences. The goal of the program is to facilitate the research use of the Arboretum’s living collections, thereby stimulating their use within the larger scientific community. The research topics of past Putnam Fellows have included taxonomy and systematics, physiological ecology, propagation, plant-insect and/or -pathogen interactions, and collections management. The Putnam Fellowship Program has attracted a diverse array of scholars, and many have gone on to be leaders in academia and public horticulture.

Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism 2011-2012, USA: Environmental Journalism

The fellowships are a nine-month academic program that allows eligible professional journalists to acquire knowledge necessary to cover the environment more effectively and enrich the public’s understanding of this crucial subject. The Scripps fellows audit classes, conduct in-depth research, and reflect on critical questions without the pressure of deadlines.
With seminars and field trips, the program brings participants together with leading environmental specialists. This helps journalists better understand key environmental issues, but it also helps the scientific community better understand the media and the way journalists work.
The Ted Scripps Fellowships program covers tuition and fees. In addition, for the 9-month, 2011-2012 academic year, a $50,000 stipend will be paid. Employers are strongly encouraged to continue benefits, including health insurance.

Kenya Undergraduate Scholarship for International Students 2011, USA

International students accepted by Berea College are fully funded for four years of study (5 years for nursing students). We ask that each international student pay a one-time fee of $50 and a $2,200 deposit before coming to Berea to help with costs for medical, dental, or other miscellaneous, unexpected expenses related to college attendance. Students may apply for an exception to paying the deposit if there are inadequate family finances. The funding provided by Berea College includes cost of education (the equivalent of tuition) and fees. Costs for room and board are also covered completely for fall semester of the first year. Because all students at Berea contribute to their educational costs and to the operation of the College via the Labor program, you will have the opportunity each term to contribute to the cost of room and board. The amount of your contribution is based upon your time on campus, or rank (sophomore, junior, senior). As a result, the amount you will pay from your labor earnings toward room and board (term bill) will increase each year. This formula is designed to never exceed your ability to pay and to always leave you with money for discretionary expenses, provided you earn a minimum of $1,000 each summer.
