UNESCO Kalinga Prize for Popularization of Science 2011

The UNESCO Kalinga Prize for the Popularization of Science is an international distinction created by UNESCO in 1951 following a donation from Mr Bijoyanand Patnaik, Founder and President of the Kalinga Foundation Trust in India.

The purpose of the Prize is to reward the efforts of a person who has had a distinguished career as a writer, editor, lecturer, radio/television programme director or film producer, which has enabled him/her to help interpret science, research and technology to the public. He/she is expected to be knowledgeable of the role of science, technology and general research in the improvement of the public welfare, the enrichment of the cultural heritage of nations and the solutions to the problems of humanity. The objective of the Prize is in conformity with UNESCO’s policies and is related to the Programme on the popularization of science.

Candidates shall have made a significant contribution to the popularization of science. The Prize may be conferred only upon individuals. A work that has been produced by two or three persons shall not be considered

Doctoral Studentship in Circuit Design, Lund University, Sweden

The focus of the research project is on ultra-low power digital circuit design. During the course of the project power optimization techniques from architectural down to transistor level will be investigated for their suitability and efficiency, if the circuit is operated under a scaled supply voltage. Furthermore, clocking strategies like globally asynchronous and locally synchronous (GALS) will be investigated. The PhD student will participate in an Industrial Excellence Center supported by VINNOVA and industrial partners entitled “System Design on Silicon” ,www.eit.lth.se/sos. The position is full-time, which includes 15% department work, mainly teaching.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Master of Science in in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, physics or equivalent. The position is intended to be filled for a doctoral education in circuit design.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan for the Academic Year 2011-12

Commonwealth under its Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) has offered various scholarships / fellowships for the Academic year 2011-12. This activity has been made possible largely by the success of the CSFP endowment fund, which was raised to mark the 50th Anniversary of the scheme last year, as well as generosity of the host institutions. The new destinations are Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, South Africa and Tanzania. The details are as under:

Eligibility Criteria:
The Applicant:
a.  Should not have obtained below 70% marks in entire academic career (SSC, HSC, BA/BSc, Masters)
b.  Should have obtained at least 65% or above marks in Masters (MS/MSc or other 16 years of education or in BE/BSc Engineering, MBBS, LLB, MBA, or equivalent.
c.   With completed sixteen (16) years or equivalent bachelor’s degree for Master’s studies.
d.   With MS/ M. Phil completed degree will be given preference in PhD studies.
e.    With PhD completed degree will be given preference in Post Doctoral / Research studies.
f.     Should be fulfilling the respective university’s eligibility criteria of the course / degree, in which he / she is interested to apply.
g.   Applying in only one program, country as well as course
