Doctoral Studentship in Circuit Design, Lund University, Sweden

The focus of the research project is on ultra-low power digital circuit design. During the course of the project power optimization techniques from architectural down to transistor level will be investigated for their suitability and efficiency, if the circuit is operated under a scaled supply voltage. Furthermore, clocking strategies like globally asynchronous and locally synchronous (GALS) will be investigated. The PhD student will participate in an Industrial Excellence Center supported by VINNOVA and industrial partners entitled “System Design on Silicon” ,www.eit.lth.se/sos. The position is full-time, which includes 15% department work, mainly teaching.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Master of Science in in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, physics or equivalent. The position is intended to be filled for a doctoral education in circuit design.

Lulea University of Technology, PhD Position in Signal Processing, Sweden

The Signal Processing Group at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering is looking for a new PhD student within the field of Measurement Systems Engineering. The topic of the research will be on the development of methods for on-line measurement and analysis of paper pulp properties and their connection to paper quality parameters.

We seek candidates with a MSc./Civ.ing. degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar areas, preferably with a strong interest and experience in mathematics, statistics, experimental design and signal processing. Previous experience in the design of measurement systems is also valuable. The collaborative nature of the project requires the student to be fluent in both Swedish and English, written and spoken. The application should include CV, university transcripts (tests/grades record) and contact details of at least two references.

PhD Positions in Primate Neurophysiology and fMRI, Germany

Our research focuses on neural mechanisms of active perception and decision making in human and non-human primates. We employ a combination of experimental techniques including multichannel electrophysiological recordings, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), reversible inactivation and stimulation of specific brain areas. Candidates can select between three projects:
1) The first project will investigate neuronal interactions between the two brain hemispheres during free and reward based decisions.
2) The second project will elucidate the contribution of the thalamic pulvinar to visuomotor coordination.
3) The third project will study the role of pulvinar in cortico-cortical communication during goal-directed behavior.
All projects employ a macaque monkey model of brain functions, but comparative experiments in human subjects will also be possible.

We are looking for very motivated candidates with a strong interest in brain and behavioral sciences and a university degree in neurobiology/neuroscience, engineering, physics or computer sciences. Good programming and analytical skills are necessary, experimental skills will be required but can be acquired in the course of the study. Prior experience with fMRI, neurophysiological or behavioral methods will be highly valued.
