Food Valley Ambassador Program for Students, Netherlands: Food Technology or Food Safety

The Food Valley Ambassador Program is looking for international students with the ambition to start an international career in food and life sciences research. The program is organised by the Food Valley organisation, Wageningen University, Nutri-akt and ten multinational companies. These companies offer high-potential students an extra-long one-year internship opportunity in the Food Valley region. The program strives to connect you with a company that has activities in your home country.

Scholarship Application Deadline: If you hold an EU or EES (Icelandic, Norwegian, Swiss), American (USA), Canadian, Australian or Japanese nationality and want to join the MSc programme Food Technology or Food Safety at Wageningen University in September 2011, you have to apply for the Food Valley Ambassador scholarship before June 15, 2011.
If you hold another nationality, you have to apply for the Food Valley Ambassador scholarship before May 1, 2011.

Frederick Douglass Fellowships, USA: African-American Studies

The Frederick Douglass Fellowships support independent work in African-American studies and related areas. The author, activist, and diplomat Frederick Douglass (1818-1895), for whom the fellowships were named, was born in Talbot County, Md., about 30 miles south of Chestertown, and retained a deep attachment to the Eastern Shore until the end of his life.
The Douglass Fellowships were established through a generous gift from Maurice Meslans and Margaret Holyfield of St. Louis. They fund an annual spring semester grant of up to $1500 to a sophomore or junior to work on a research project related to African-American studies. Topics pertaining to—in the words of the donors—other “minority American” fields (Asian-American studies, gay and lesbian studies, Latino studies, et al.) will also be considered. In addition to funding student projects, each year, during the spring semester, the Douglass Fellowships also bring to campus a visiting scholar, writer, musician, etc. engaged in the study or interpretation of African-American history and related fields.
The grant covers research trips and book purchases, and helps support recipients while they work on their projects. Each Frederick Douglass Fellow selects a faculty member to guide the project; the mentor receives a $500 honorarium for his or her participation. Working side by side with their chosen mentor, Douglass Fellows are able to take their academic work to a new level, pursuing independent research beyond the classroom.

Peace Revolution Fellowship for Media Professionals, Thailand

Media can essentially influence human behaviors, ideologies, values, and lifestyles as we are inevitably exposed to it 24/7. Professionals in this field ought to have responsibilities to be accurate and honest. They ought not to incite prejudice, hatred, or violence. More importantly, they have the opportunity to promote peace and reconciliation. This concept of peace media and journalism is relatively new, but it is an important ingredient in creating a superior standard of the media. Yet, how can we promote peace to others if we don’t have peace within ourselves?
We believe that a creative idea comes from a beautiful mind. A beautiful mind arises from peace… within (or Peace In). During this fellowship, participants learn basic meditation techniques and develop their own inner peace. Participants also contribute through discussions on how one’s inner peace can be used to promote outer peace through media and media education. That’s why our peace equation: “Inner Peace + Outer Peace = Sustainable World Peace” is being formed.
Peace Revolution is a project that aims to provide a new paradigm-shift on the peace building process by means of the Inner Peace Time (IPT) and young peace activists through its online social media. Our IPT method is designed for all people, regardless of nationality, race, and religion. It is a universal tool in dealing with our own problems, ranging from stress, depression, familial dysfunctions, and global crises at large. Presently, Peace Revolution has about 2,000 young participants online from 140 countries around the world. There are 62 active Peace Agents aged 18-30 from 36 countries who joined three Peace Revolution workshops, conferences and training camps during 2009-2010.
Peace Revolution Fellowship will cover the cost related to accommodation, food and local transport during a one-week stay in Thailand. We have limited support on air travel and cannot pay for visa, health, and travel insurance.
