The Centre for Development Studies Nawal Al Sharif Scholarship, UK

These Scholarships are worth up to £10,000 annually and are awarded for MscEcon or MPhil degrees within the Centre for Development Studies Students can apply for a Nawal Al Sharif scholarship if:- They are a national or resident of Jordan and Palestine – They have been accepted on their proposed course of study within the Centre for Development Studies- They can demonstrate additional funding – They have a background in social development in the region. The scholarships commemorates Nawal Al Sharif, a friend of the University and a highly respected colleague on the University’s Jordanian projects for a number of years before her death in 2001. The Nawal Al Sharif scholarship is for: – A maximum award of £10,000 made annually (the size of the award will be adjusted for part-time/mixed mode study)  Study for the MSc or MPhil (in exceptional cases PhD candidates may apply) Applicants must provide a full CV and a statement (maximum 1000 words) on how they would intend to use the opportunity to study in CDS to further Social Development in Jordan and in the Palestinian Territories. Applications will be assessed by the CDS Study Award Board and decisions will be notified by 31st May.

PhD Studentship in Dentistry/Psychology, University of Exeter, UK: Psychological Cycle of Dental Anxiety

The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry with its parent Institutions, the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, are seeking to attract PhD candidates of outstanding ability to join their exciting and rapidly expanding programme of internationally rated research. As part of our new developments and our commitment to research excellence, applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates, for a PhD studentship. International students must also have IELTS [International English Language Testing System] score of 7 and above (or equivalent qualification).

This cross disciplinary PhD studentship in Dentistry/Psychology will examine how psychological techniques can be used to reduce dental patient anxiety before, during and after treatment with the aim of improving oral health. Phase 1 will explore when and where anxiety occurs and Phase 2 will test the effectiveness of different interventions designed to help patients manage anxiety at these time points. Applicants should have either a Bachelor of Dental Surgery or a 2.1 degree in Psychology or a related discipline and preferably further training in research methods or evidence of applied research in a related context.

2011 Phd Positions in Biomedical Sciences at K.U.Leuven University, Netherlands

The division Anatomy is responsible for the human anatomy courses in the Bachelor degree Medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Campus Kortrijk (Kulak). Lectures are complemented by practical sessions which offer an interactive way of acquiring knowledge and insight in the functional anatomy of the human body. In addition to the teaching duties, the division Anatomy also conducts research with focus on the functional anatomy and biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, in collaboration with other research groups and clinicians.

Your profile:
– You have a Master degree in the domain of Biomedical Sciences (e.g., Master in Biomedical Sciences, Master in Movement Sciences, Master in Kinesiology, Master in Rehabilitation Sciences, Master in Biology, Master in Engineering: biomedical technology, Master in Medicine) or equivalent. You should have obtained your Master degree prior to appointment (last year students can also apply for this position);
– You have a good knowledge and strong interest in Anatomy and Biomechanics;
– You have experience in dissections, or you are willing to acquire these skills;
– You are creative, like to take initiative and able to work independently;
– You have good educational and communicative skills and necessary sense for responsibility.

A full-time appointment as research assistant (AAP) for a period of two years, renewable, at the division Anatomy, subfaculty Medicine, Kulak (Kortrijk, Belgium).
