2011 PhD Researcher in Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University, Netherlands

The Faculty of Geosciences offers education and research concerning the geosphere, biosphere, atmosphere and anthroposphere. With a population of 2600 students (BSc and MSc) and 575 staff, the faculty is a strong and challenging organisation. The Faculty is organised in four Departments: Innovation and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physical Geography, and Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning.

The ideal candidate holds a MSc (or equivalent) degree in a relevant field (e.g. earth sciences, environmental sciences, ecology) with experience (or at least interest) in modelling and/or (organic) geochemistry. The candidate is expected to communicate easily in English, both verbally and in writing.We offer a fulltime PhD position for 4 years. The salary starts at € 2,042,- and increases to € 2,612,- gross per month in the fourth year of the appointment and is based on the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities. Secondary benefits include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions, a holiday bonus (8,0%) and an end-of-year bonus (8,3%). Experimental work will be conducted in the research group of Organic Geochemistry and modeling work in the research group of Environmental Sciences.

Internships in Energy and Climate Change Research, University of Cape Town, South Africa

The Energy Research Centre at UCT undertakes multi-disciplinary work on energy policy andclimate change for a range of clients, from the of Cape Town, to national government, to the United Nations. We are currently doing ground-breaking research on ways in which the South African energy system can be made more climate-friendly. We are looking for one or two interns to assist us with these projects.

Candidates should be numerate, familiar with Excel, be able to write clearly and precisely (in English), be familiar with energy issues and technology, and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
We are especially looking to attract black South African students, but all interested candidatesare strongly encouraged to apply.

2011 PhD Positions of Excellence in Architecture, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 13 344 full-time equivalent students, of whom 6 955 are at Bachelor (first) level, while 5 545 are at Master (second) level. In addition, 1 314 are full-time equivalent students at doctoral studies (third) level and 3 900 employees.

The department of Architecture educates architects and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Architecture. There are five research groupings: Architectural Design, History and Theory of architecture, Architectural Technology, Critical Studies of Architecture, and Urban Design. The doctoral studentships offered will be connected to the planned National School of Research in Architecture from spring 2012.
