Newman Fellowship in Cardiovascular Epidemiology at University College Dublin, UK

As part of its programme to provide postdoctoral research opportunities for scholars of proven academic excellence, University College Dublin invites applications for the following Newman Fellowship in Cardiovascular Epidemiology Edwards Lifesciences Newman Fellowship in Cardiovascular Epidemiology. This Fellowship is established at the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Population Science, with support from Edwards Lifesciences. The School of Public Health has a long track record of population-based research in Cardiovascular Disease epidemiology, risk factor modification and health services implications of Cardiovascular Disease in Ireland.
The Edwards Newman Fellow will be expected to have a clinical qualification to doctoral level, have specific training in cardiovascular disease and have the epidemiological and statistical skills to carry out independent research in this field. The Edwards Lifesciences Newman Fellowship is tenable for two years. Vacation Scholarship Award 2011, Australia: Biomedical, social or applied research

If you wish to apply for a MSRA Vacation Scholarship first obtain a number from the Research Coordinator  ahead of the closing date. Please provide your name, application title and indicate separately if your application is in biomedical, social or applied research. The number will be emailed to you and must be used on your application and all correspondence. Please contact the latter if you wish to be advised of the MS researchers and the projects working in your locale. You must approach a researcher and obtain their agreement that you may complete your vacation scholarship work in their lab under their supervision and on their project. Please arrange for the supply of two (2) Referee Reports one of which must be the supervisor of the research you propose to undertake. The Referee reports are welcomed electronically but must be generated from the Referee’s email address and emailed directly to the MSRA Research Coordinator by the required closing date.

Please supply a detailed transcript of your academic results. This can be attached as a scanned document.Academic transcripts must be counter-signed, by reference to the original, by your supervisor. It is recognised that applications close before full year end results are available. The year end results will be requested before the scholarship is approved. You will be notified if these are required. Scholarships will be assessed during the MSRA Research Management Council grant round decisioning. All Vacation Scholarship applications must be submitted using this application form. Applications not submitted on this form will be ineligible for consideration. Mary Kelly Ad Astra Research Scholarship in Society and the Environment, UK

Proposals may relate to social factors that are seen to contribute to creating environmental problems, the social consequences of such problems and strategies for addressing such problems. The specific issues to which such research could be addressed include the following: environmentalism as a social movement; perceptions of environmental problems and the inequitable social distribution of environmental hazards; environmental justice and social inequality; paradigms of environment and society; environmental knowledge, discourse and policy; environmental conflict, public values and the environment, environmental citizenship. Research Study The College of Human Sciences, UCD has funded a 3-year ad Astra Research Scholarship for a Ph.D. research proposals relating to the study of the relationship between society and the environment. The successful candidate, with support from a supervisor, would be expected to identify a major topic of interest within this area.
Ad Astra Scholarship: The scholarship is valued at €16,000 per annum. This is comprised of €12,000 as a tax-free scholarship, and €4,000 as remuneration for contributions to the undergraduate teaching programme (not greater than 234 hours per annum). Successful applicants who do not qualify for any external fee support will in addition be supported by a UCD Grant to cover fees. All students are obliged to pay the Student Centre Levy. Eligibility: Applicants must have a first or upper second class honours primary degree and/or master’s degree, or the equivalent, in Sociology or a related discipline and be qualified for direct admission to a Ph.D. programme. In addition to academic excellence, cognisance will be taken of relevant previous professional experience and training.
