2011 Postdoctoral Position in Materials Physics, KTH School of Information and Communication Technology, Sweden

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 13 344 full-time equivalent students, of whom 6 955 are at Bachelor (first) level, while 5 545 are at Master (second) level. In addition, 1 314 are full-time equivalent students at doctoral studies (third) level and 3 900 employees.

For the position, the successful candidate should have a PhD in Physics or Materials Science with a strong background in physics, materials science, nanotechnology or chemistry. English proficiency and good experimental skills are a must. AINSE Postgraduate Research Awards 2011, Australia: Nuclear Science & Technology

AINSE offers awards for postgraduate students whose research projects are associated with nuclear science, or its applications, and require access to the unique national facilities at the Lucas Heights Science & Technology Centre.Postgraduate Research Awards are offered by AINSE for suitably qualified persons wishing to undertake studies in AINSE’s field of interest for a higher degree at a member university of AINSE. Applications are particularly encouraged in fields which are related to the research activities of the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO) at Lucas Heights, Australia.

Research Supplements are the principal form of award and are offered to scholars who are (or will be) in receipt of an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or equivalent scholarship.Supplement Stipend: $7,500 pa.The award also provides $5,500 pa for costs involved in using the facilities and services at Lucas Heights. Certain travel and accommodation costs to enable students to work at Lucas Heights are also provided.Candidates for an AINSE Postgraduate Research.Supplement must be nominated by the Australian or New Zealand university where PhD enrolment is held or proposed for tenure commencing before 30 June of the year of application. The university must be a member of AINSE.Responsibility for establishing taxation liability lies with the recipient.

2011 PhD Position in Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University, Netherlands

Agency, Gender, and Economic Development in the World Economy 1850-2000 is a project that endeavors’ to explore how ‘agency’, conceptualized as the potential for individual decision-making at the levels of households, economic activity and political participation, contributed to global economic development and vice versa. a (research) master’s degree in economic and social history, or in economics or another social science with shown interest in (economic and social) history a theoretical background and a strong interest for relevant theory; an outstanding record of undergraduate and master’s degree work; the ability to work with large data sets.

We offer a PhD position (1,0 fte) with a one year contract beginning June 2011. After a positive evaluation this contract can be extended to a maximum of three more years (a total of four years maximum). This provides graduates with an opportunity to finish their doctoral dissertation in four years, funded by NWO. Salary will be rising from € 2.042,- a month (before taxes) during the first year to € 2.612,- a month during the fourth year on a fulltime basis. We also offer solid benefits.
