Proposals are invited for the following initiatives:

Specific short-term research projects,  Conferences,Publishing Aid (only awarded for projects already being supported by the Foundation)Research projects application overview (Form for research project application description of the research proposal (max. 8 pages) work plan and time schedule, travel itinerary (if needed) detailed cost calculation (the specific funds being applied for must be precisely defined) curriculum vitae and list of publications of the applicant(s) if appropriate, curriculum vitae, publications and certificate(s) of university degree (or seminar attendance certificates for direct doctorades) of the proposed project coordinator and/or participant After having sent the electronic application form, we kindly ask you to send us a printout of the completed application form along with the other documents by mail.

Conferences
Applications for funding of a conference should contain the following documents:
application overview (= Form for research project application) conference concept list of speakers and subjects cost plan which provides information about the volume of funding the applicants can provide themselves and grants that have been promised by other supporting institutions (normally travel expenses and hotel expenses – no flat-rate daily allowance shall be paid)statement as to whether an identical or a comparable application has been submitted to any other funding body recently or at any time in the past.

After having sent the electronic application form, we kindly ask you to send us a printout of the completed application form along with the other documents by mail.

Publishing Aid :Publishing aid is currently only awarded for projects already being supported by the Foundation.Applications for printing aid are to include a two-page summary of the academic merit and innovativeness of the monograph/collection, at least two cost calculations from independent publishing houses and the manuscript on which the calculations have been made (this can also be provided on CD-ROM).

The Bommies Award 2010 by Great Barrier Reef Foundation

The Bommies will be awarded for a solution or adaption concept for the Reef, which meets the following criteria:
• Is innovative;
• Delivers practical outcomes to reef managers;
• Has climate change and the Reef’s viability as its primary focus;
• Has as its goal a measurable impact on the sustainability of the Reef; and
• Not otherwise diminish the economic social or cultural value of the Reef.
The Prize :The Bommies Award Sculpture Artist, Dr Vera Möller has created the sculpture, entitled Bomborella, to mark the award. Vera describes the work as a fictional coral species, a hypothetical specimen, an imaginary marine life form, yet to be discovered.The winner of the Bommies Award will receive a prize of $10,000 and a work on paper rendering an image of the sculpture.An honour plaque linked to the sculpture will also record award recipients over time.

Eligibility :Any postgraduate, who is an Australian resident and less than 36 years of age, may enter The Bommies Award.
Applicants will be asked to demonstrate innovative thinking, a willingness to work with different collaborators across a broad spectrum of disciplines and experience, and a commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change on coral reefs, in ways that may not have been thought of before.
