2011 King’s Alumni Bursaries at King’s College London in UK

Applicants must:  Be a King’s alumnus, which covers any student who has undertaken a degree/diploma/certificate/exchange programme (for no less than one semester); ~ Be due to commence a full-time or part-time postgraduate masters programme or MPhilStud programme at King’s College London during the 2011/12 academic year. Please note that: ~ Existing postgraduate masters/MPhilStud degree students are not eligible to apply.
The King’s College London Graduate School is offering up to 35 King’s Alumni Bursaries (KAB) to alumni (a graduate or former student of King’s College London) who intend to continue their studies by undertaking a Postgraduate Masters programme or MPhilStud programme at King’s College London commencing in the 2011/12 academic year. The KAB is available to any student who had undertaken a degree/diploma/certificate/exchange programme (for no less than one semester) at the College and wishes to pursue a, full-time or part-time, postgraduate masters programme or MPhilStud programme, at King’s College London.

2011-12 Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Kent, UK: Drama and Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Fine Art, History and Philosophy of Art, and Music and Audio

The School of Arts awards a number of postgraduate scholarships each year.  Applications are invited each year from highly-qualified students to undertake doctoral research and taught MA study. Scholarships are available in all of the following subject areas: Drama and Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Fine Art, History and Philosophy of Art, and Music and Audio. A number of School studentships, paying fees only at the home/EU rate for three years (subject to satisfactory progress) are available for Doctoral study. Holders of these studentships may be offered teaching to supplement their income, which will be separately contracted and fully remunerated at the assistant lecturer rate.
All applicants for University of Kent or School of Arts scholarships must provide the following information: 1.A covering letter confirming their offer of a place to study at Kent plus details of which scholarship(s) they would like to be considered for (and in which order).2.CV. 2.Two academic references. In addition, applicants for research degrees must provide a research proposal (max 1,000 words), together with an example of their writing, and ‘practice as research’ applicants should in addition provide an example of their practice.  Taught MA applicants should supply a sample of written work.

PhD Scholarship in Theory of Metal Hydrides, Sweden: Physics and Astronomy

The Division of Materials theory is known to have a world-class research environment in ab-initio computational research on materials properties. Besides the usage of existing state-of-the-art computational codes, a perpetual development of new methods and computational techniques is done in this department.

The Ph. D. student will work on theory of metal hydrides, both metallic multilayers and bulk systems. In addition to structural aspects and phase stability, the dynamical properties of hydrogen will be investigated by combining ab-initio theory with kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. The research task is the theory part of a cross-disciplinary project which also involves experimental physics and chemistry.

The applicant is expected to have a Masters degree in Physics, or equivalent, with a good background in solid-state physics. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of Master thesis, published article or relevant materials, if available. Also, letter(s) of recommendation should be included.
