Postdoctoral Fellowship in Remote Sensing and GIS, Cotonou

The Post?Doctoral Fellow will be based at the temporary headquarters of Africa Rice in Cotonou, Benin and will work under the supervision of the Program 2 Leader. She or he will be responsible for:
– Evaluating and applying methodologies for mapping the distribution of rice in different
ecosystems in Africa using remote sensing, GIS and national statistics;
– The development, validation and application of innovative approaches to map abiotic and biotic stress distribution in rice production systems in Africa;
– Performing spatial analysis in a GIS environment to identify suitable areas for adoption of stress?tolerant varieties by combining remote sensing obtained maps and survey data;
-Prepare presentations and publish research results in peer?reviewed journals.
– Developing research proposals, and
– Undertaking any other duties as requested by the Program 2 Leader.

The College of Science and Engineering is pleased to announce the availability of College postgraduate research scholarships for PhD registration in 2011. These prestigious scholarships are highly competitive and we seek candidates who can demonstrate excellence in a single discipline or cross-disciplinary expertise.The scholarship will be for up to three and a half years and will meet the cost of fees (at the home-EU level) and provide a stipend at the Research Council recommended rates (currently £13,590 for 2010/11).
Eligibility: The College Scholarship is open to home/EU/International applicants. They are available for PhD applications in all disciplines within the College of Science and Engineering. Prospective candidates must have secured the support of a PhD supervisor prior to application.

AWARD Fellowships for African Women in Agricultural Research and Development 2011 in Africa

AWARD is a professional development program that strengthens the research and leadership skills of African women in agricultural science, empowering them to contribute more effectively to poverty alleviation and food security in sub-Saharan Africa. AWARD is a project of the Gender & Diversity Program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
The AWARD Fellowship is a two-year program that offers a series of career-development resources that:
•establish a mentorship for each fellow with a senior scientist
•build science skills
•develop leadership capacity
AWARD’s training courses, held over a two-year period, take place in various locations in Africa.

Eligibility
Women agricultural scientists who are nationals of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zambia, who have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in the disciplines listed below, are eligible to apply. Applicants must be available in Africa throughout the fellowship period. There is no age restriction.
Applications received after the deadline and incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Selected fellows will be notified in mid-July, 2011.
