This prospectus describes the Commonwealth Professional Fellow ships offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom in 2011-2012. Whilst the majority of awards offered by the Commission have been for conventional postgraduate study, its activities also embrace a long-standing programme for university staff from developing countries to spend periods of time in the UK, for the purposes of career updating and skills enhancement. The Commission has sought to extend this principle to other professions, through the creation of the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships programme, under which organisations based in the UK can either apply to host key professionals from developing Commonwealth countries within their own organ is at – ion, or nominate candidates to work with other UK-based organizations with which they have links. Awards under the programme were first offered in 2002-03 and further awards will be offered this year under the terms and conditions set out here.
In 2011-2012, the Commission is working with the Scottish Government to offer Commonwealth Saltire Professional Fellowships. Funded by the Scottish Government, these awards are open to Scottish organisations which are able to identify a Fellow or Fellows who have the ability to influence progress towards minimising the impact of climate change in their home country.
