PhD Research Assistantships in Networked Systems Security , Sweden

We invite applications for PhD research assistantships. We are looking for highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing research and graduate studies on the security of networked systems.
The positions will be with the Security group at LCN, and the successful applicants shall benefit from a network of collaborations in KTH and beyond. The Security group is internationally oriented and offers a stimulating and enjoyable working environment that favors diversity.
The emphasis of the envisioned work shall be on design and analysis of secure and privacy-enhancing protocols. Candidates with strong experimental/systems or theoretical profiles are encouraged to apply.
A PhD assistantship at KTH can extend to up to five (5) years, with 80% of the time devoted to research and 20% to teaching duties. The salary is set according to the standard agreements for PhD student employment at KTH. The starting dates are planned for the spring term of 2011.

PhD Studentship in Genomics in Diplomonads, Sweden: Genomics in Diplomonads

Excellent candidates with an academic degree at the Masters level in molecular biology and/or biotechnology are invited to apply. Experience in molecular parasitology is required and a background in genome analyses is a merit. The research project will be conducted in a very active environment as part of a group consisting of, at present two PhD students and 1 post-doc. Activities center around the pathogenesis and evolution of protozoan parasites. In particular, the focus is on development of tools for diagnosis of the intestinal parasites Giardia intestinalis and Spironucleus salmonicida. The PhD student will be expected to teach and/or supervise during lab courses, in Swedish or English, for at most 20% of the time.

Kitt Peak National Observatory Research Scholarship for Undergraduates, USA: Astrophysics

Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO), a division of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO), anticipates being able to offer six research assistant positions for the summer of 2010 through the NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program. The KPNO REU program provides an exceptional opportunity for undergraduates considering a career in science to engage in substantive research activities with NOAO scientists working in the forefront of contemporary astrophysics. Each REU student is hired as a full-time research assistant to work on specific aspects of major ongoing research projects at NOAO which include the origin, nature, and evolution of stars, galaxies and stellar systems, observational cosmology, analysis of Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope images,and Kepler Mission light curves. As part of their research activities, REU students gain first-hand experience with KPNO’s state-of-the-art telescopes and develop expertise in astronomical data reduction and analysis.

Participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. The positions are full-time for 10 to 12 weeks between June and August, with a preferred starting date in early June. A salary of $675.00 per week and funds to cover travel to and from Tucson, Arizona, are provided. Summer housing is the responsibility of the student. Students have a choice to either live on campus at the University of Arizona or rent an apartment or house off campus.
