Genome Science and Technology Graduate Scholarship, Canada

A new multidisciplinary graduate program combining training in genomics, with intensive training in new leading-edge genome science technologies, such as high-throughput techniques that acquire information from DNA sequence (genomics), protein expression and interactions (proteomics), and gene expression patterns (transcriptomics) to exploit information for a better understanding of biology. The GSAT program provides the opportunity for students to spend their first year engaged in research rotations designed to maximize the exposure to a broad range of research topics before committing to a thesis project and supervisor.

Three PhD positions in Computer Communication, Sweden

The PhD positions are within the Communication Research group at the department of Information Technology. The group is doing research within mobile and wireless computer communication, wireless security, and Ad hoc, Opportunistic, Wireless Sensor Networks. Our research approach is mainly experimental and we build prototypes and demonstrators.

One position is on parallel Internet protocols and implementations for multicore computers. The position is within the UPMARC center of Excellence.

One or two positions are within the Uppsala WISENET Center of Excellence on wireless sensor networks. The PhD students may do research in one or several fields: participatory sensing, macro programming of sensors or sensor monitoring of environments, such as flood areas or energy consumption in buildings.

The candidates are expected to have an interest in programming of computer systems. A PhD student position requires a Master of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent in a field that is relevant for the topic Computer Communication. Candidates of all nationalities may apply. The position is for a maximum of five years and includes departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). The candidates should be able to start during the Spring semester of 2011.

PhD Scholarship in Flow of Air Over Complex Forested Terrain, Denmark

The Wind Energy Division has an open PhD position concerning the flow of air over complex forested terrain. The PhD student will work within the research center for computational wind turbine aerodynamics and atmospheric turbulence, which is funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council running from 2010 to 2015. Qualifications Candidates should have a master’s degree in physics, meteorology, engineering or mathematics or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree. Experience with fluid dynamics or boundary layer meteorology, as well as good communication skills are considered advantageous for obtaining the position.

Approval and Enrolment
